"Where's Malick?"
"It's complicated. We went there. He was waiting for us..."
"He's dead. I shot him."

The Assassination of Wilfred Malick was a successful assassination executed by Deke Shaw in 1976 to make up for his mistake of not killing Wilfred Malick back in 1931.

"Well, maybe next time we have the chance to change it, we do."
"I'm in."

Deke Shaw was previously unable to shoot Malick in their first encounter in the early 1930s. In that encounter, Shaw was directed by Daisy Johnson to shoot Malick, in order to prevent the deaths that would be caused by HYDRA, but Director Mack ordered Shaw not to do this.[2]

"He's supposed to be dead, right? Status quo."

"My father was killed by your team, or do you want to deny that? Didn't get me as choked up as I thought it would."
"Sounds like the apple fell far from the tree."
"I have no use for my father's way of thinking! He trapped himself in HYDRA, bound by its history, rules, hierarchy. No, thanks. Here's my pitch: Goodbye to all that. Say hello to anarchy."
Nathaniel Malick and Phil Coulson[src]

After Deke Shaw was accidentally kidnapped with Jemma Simmons, Nathaniel Malick took great pleasure in watching Shaw's torture at the hands of John Garrett. He eventually quaked him into unconsciousness, saying that was revenge for killing his father.[3]
