- "Where's Malick?"
"It's complicated. We went there. He was waiting for us..."
"He's dead. I shot him." - ―Alphonso Mackenzie, Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Deke Shaw[src]
The Assassination of Wilfred Malick was a successful assassination executed by Deke Shaw in 1976 to make up for not killing Wilfred Malick back in 1931.
Background[]

"Well, maybe next time we have the chance to change it, we do."

In the 1930s, Deke Shaw and Alphonso Mackenzie went on a mission to protect a kid named Freddy, unknowing that his last name was Malick.[2] A name they have had quarrels with in the past, specifically Gideon Malick. Upon learning this, Daisy Johnson ordered a clueless Shaw to shoot Malick. However, Mackenzie stopped Shaw before he could. This made Malick believe he was in Shaw's debt.[3]
Wilfred Malick reunites with Deke Shaw
Come 1955, Malick was making a name for himself at Hydra as it flourished beneath S.H.I.E.L.D.'s eyes. Then, Shaw was kidnapped as he was investigating Niles Lindmore's body. When the bag above his head was removed, he saw he was infront of Malick, who was just as surprised to see Shaw, much less as young as he was.
Wilfred Malick living past his expected death
As a token of gratitude, Malick let Shaw walk free as Shaw did not kill him back in the 1930s.[4] Later on in 1973, the group learned that due to the Chronicoms, Malick lived past his expected death and was still prominent in HYDRA, working together with an oblivious Rick Stoner to launch Project Insight in the coming years. The Chronicoms met with Malick in 1976 and gave him a file containing Lilla and John Mackenzie to use as leverage against Mackenzie to foil their attempt to stop the launch.[1]

Upon jumping to 1976, Deke Shaw and Yo-Yo Rodriguez rushed to Wilfred Malick's office and barged in during Project Insight's launch. Shaw pointed his gun at Malick who simply chuckled, amused that Shaw of all people would be meeting him on that day.

Malick offered a seat, but Shaw stood his ground as Rodriguez claimed that S.H.I.E.L.D. would stop Project Insight. Malick said that he had a feeling the agents were truly naive as to what they were up against. Rodriguez replied that he could fill them in as he came with them as prisoner, but a still calm Malick said that would not be happening. Malick then brought out a folder saying that the Chroncioms knew what would happen and this was their plan. As Malick taunted the agents, Shaw unloaded his weapon onto Malick, killing him. He then asked if they saw that coming. Rodriguez turned to Shaw angry, but Shaw simply said he was supposed to be dead anyways.[1]
Aftermath[]
Yo-Yo Rodriguez sees the photos
- "My father was killed by your team, or do you want to deny that? Didn't get me as choked up as I thought it would."
"Sounds like the apple fell far from the tree." - ―Nathaniel Malick and Phil Coulson[src]
Yo-Yo Rodriguez quickly walked over to the files Wilfred Malick was holding and was horrified at the contents. In the photos were Lilla and John Mackenzie, who were being held in the Lighthouse.
Zephyr One gives up their position
Meanwhile, Alphonso Mackenzie learned this same fact by seeing the cameras and realized if Phil Coulson and Melinda May followed through on their plan to flood the Lighthouse before Project Insight, Mackenzie's parents would drown. Mackenzie called off the mission and instead tried to take down Project Insight a new way. Enoch, Jemma Simmons and him flew and shot down the missiles, giving away their position.[1]
Sibyl finds new possibilities in the wake of Wilfred Malick's death
Luke soon met with Sibyl and was not very happy. He believed her plan was failing, but she told him the death of Malick was good as destroying Project Insight revealed S.H.I.E.L.D.'s location. Furthermore, they were now divided as Nathaniel Malick had Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa.[5] When Nathaniel later talked to Coulson, he blamed Coulson and his team for his father's death, but admitted he was not as sad as he thought he would be.[6]
