In order to clear the Runaways from the charges of murder of Destiny Gonzalez, Catherine Wilder decided to frame Darius Davis and killed him, although her husband Geoffrey had promised Davis that he would give him ownership of the PRIDE Construction Site.[1] Geoffrey did his best to compensate for Catherine's actions to Davis' wife Tamar, giving her the rights over the dig site as well as a large amount of money for her son Xerxes Davis, but Tamar remained determine to get revenge over the murder of her husband.[2]

Eventually, Catherine was framed for a crime by her own son Alex during the Chase of the Runaways, and both she and Geoffrey were arrested by the LAPD.[3] Deciding to accept the consequences of her actions that had nearly torn her family apart, Catherine confessed to the killing of Davis, ensuring Geoffrey's freedom while she was sent to prison.[4] In jail, Catherine faced a lot of hostily from the other inmates, due to her role in having them sentenced while she worked as an attorney, and Tamar, having learned that Catherine was imprisoned, decided to take advantage of it.[5]

―Inmate Leader to Catherine Wilder[src]

Back from a visit by her son, during which she had expressed her regrets regarding her past crimes and her fear that he would one day resort to the same tactics as she did, Catherine Wilder was brought back to her cell, where three other inmates, led by Shark, ambushed her. Wilder immediately screamed at the guard to let her out, but he ignored her. The inmates' leader then confronted Wilder for her actions, accusing her of having ruined many lives without ever reflecting on her own actions. Wilder tried to defend herself by explaining that she could be useful thanks to her connections and money, but the inmates rejected her offer. The leader then revealed that she had been paid off by Tamar, and the three inmates repeatedly stabbed her to death.[5]

Aftermath[]

"Is that Geoffrey on the phone?"
"Why is he smiling?"
Chase Stein and Molly Hernandez[src]

Geoffrey Wilder, Catherine's husband, was immediately alerted of his wife death, being told that she had been involved in a fight and had died in the process. Heavily shaken, Geoffrey called his son Alex and informed him of his mother's death. This left Alex deeply shocked, as he was the one who had sent his mother to jail and had just rejected her wish to rebuild their family. The intense despair caused by the news actually caused the Magistrate's Son, who had been possessing Alex for days but without being able to control him due to Alex's strong personality, to resurface and fully take control, trying to reconnect with his family.[5]

Despite Tamar being primarily responsible for Catherine's death, she and Geoffrey started dating months later.[6]
