In the aftermath of the Destruction of Chronyca-2, the Chronicoms, now led by Atarah, were significantly diminished and left without a home planet. Learning that S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had traveled into the past to save Earth from a similar fate, Atarah sent the Chronicom Hunter Malachi in search of Leo Fitz and Enoch so they could help the Chronicoms go back in time and save Chronyca-2.
However, despite Fitz being captured along with Jemma Simmons and put into the Cerebral Fusion Machine, they were able to escape thanks to Enoch's assistance, leaving Atarah with an incomplete solution.
Despite having gained incomplete knowledge from Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons thanks to the Cerebral Fusion Machine, Atarah still wanted to use it to Time Travel, like S.H.I.E.L.D. did, to save Chronyca-2. However, Malachi, who had been her loyal enforcer all along, opposed this idea, and instead insisted that the Chronicoms should conquer another planet and call it Chronyca-3.
Atarah refused to follow Malachi's idea, arguing that there was no need for conquest and that her plan had no flaw. However, Malachi countered and stated that Atarah was the flaw since she wanted to tamper with the laws of the universe. As a result, Malachi executed Atarah, and proceeded to take charge of the Chronicoms, reassigning them all to be Chronicom Hunters.
Now the leader of all the Chronicoms, Malachi reassigned the entire species to the role of Chronicom Hunters, with Isaiah being tasked to track down Enoch. Malachi then proceeded to use the memories of Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons accumulated in the Cerebral Fusion Machine to plan an invasion of the S.H.I.E.L.D. base of operations on Earth, in an attempt to take over the entire planet and turn it into Chronyca-3 using S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrets.
