- "It is with great pride that I stand before you today to announce that in just one day's time, the nations of Earth have put aside their differences and united under my command. It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom hobbles you, diminishes your life's joy. You were made to be ruled. So I have come to help you fulfill your destiny."
- ―Loki[src]
The Asgardian Invasion is a conquest of the Human homeworld of Earth by the Asgardians, caused by Hank Pym killing Thor during his attempted escape from a S.H.I.E.L.D. site in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico. Within a few hours, Loki proclaimed himself as the new ruler of Earth and had total domination over everyone on the planet.
However, Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. would reform the Avengers into a resistance group dedicated to ending the Asgardian occupation of Earth with Captain America and Captain Marvel leading the charge along with a variant of Black Widow from another universe.
Invasion[]
Battle of Puente Antiguo[]
Banished from Asgard by Odin, Thor found himself on Earth, while the Mjølnir ended up in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s possession. Thor attempted to break into the S.H.I.E.L.D. Crater Investigation Site in Puente Antiguo to retrieve his hammer, however, he ended up being killed by Hawkeye, as the Yellowjacket caused him to misfire and shoot Thor with an arrow.
Loki and his army confront S.H.I.E.L.D.
When the news of Thor's death reached Asgard, Loki, who replaced Odin as the ruler of Asgard, led Sif, the Warriors Three, an army of the Einherjar and the Destroyer on Earth. Arriving at Puente Antiguo through the Bifrost Bridge, Loki and his army declared his intentions of retribution to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents led by Nick Fury. Arming himself with the Casket of Ancient Winters, Loki attacked S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but Fury convinced him to give him a chance to find a culprit behind Thor's murder. Loki agreed to give Fury time until dawn or the Asgardians will lay desolation to the planet in retribution.[1]
Loki's Takeover[]
Loki at the United Nations press conference
Uncovering that Hank Pym was responsible for the series of murders that involved killing of Thor, Nick Fury and Loki devised an ambush to take him down. With Pym being apprehended by the Einherjar, Loki broke his agreement with Fury and ordered his subordinates to conquer Earth for him. As the army of Asgard spread across the planet, Loki made a public statement to the United Nations, announcing that he had subjugated all the nations of Earth under his command.[1]
Attack on the Helicarrier[]
The Helicarrier is attacked by the Asgardians
In an attempt to stop Loki and his invasion, Nick Fury relaunched the Avengers Initiative and recruited Captain Marvel and Captain America into the Avengers. However, the Einherjar led by Loki attacked the Helicarrier, engaging in a battle with the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and gaining an upper hand. Loki attempted to use the Scepter to enthrall Fury, however, he was stopped by Black Widow from an alternate universe. Black Widow neutralized Loki with his own Scepter and joined the Avengers in their fight against Asgardians.[2]
