Armor Wars is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. It will be an installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[1]

In January 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed that a War Machine film was in development.[2] Joe Robert Cole had been hired to write the film.[3]

In April 2019, Cheadle said that Cole's script presented "a lot of tension between his job as a military man and his allegiances to the code that he swore an oath to uphold, versus the changing world."[4]

On December 10, 2020, during Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Kevin Feige announced that an Armor Wars television series was in development for Disney+ with Don Cheadle set to reprise his role as James Rhodes/War Machine in the series.[5]

On February 3, 2021, Don Cheadle revealed in an interview that the death of Tony Stark would play a major role in the series.[6] That same day, Cheadle revealed in another interview that the series would start production in a couple of months.[7]

On August 20, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Yassir Lester had been tapped to serve as the head writer of the series.[8]

On October 21, 2021, it was reported that the working title of the series was "Rigatoni".[9]

On February 3, 2022, it was reported that the series would start production in October or November in Atlanta.[10]

On April 16, 2022, it was revealed that the series would begin production in the fall.[11]

On September 10, 2022, it was announced that the series' first season would consist of six episodes and that the series would begin production in 2023.[12]

On September 29, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series would be redeveloped as a theatrical film.[1] That same day, it was reported that Dominique Thorne was set to reprise her role as Riri Williams/Ironheart in the series before it was redeveloped as a film.[13]
