Anulax Batteries are among the most powerful sources of energy in the universe. They were also very valuable with each battery being worth thousands of units. Since they are so valuable, they were often targeted by thieves.

During the battle with the Abilisk, Rocket Raccoon stole some of the batteries. Just after the Guardians left, the Sovereign discovered the theft and sent their Omnicrafts after the Milano to retrieve them. However, when the drones failed to retrieve the batteries, Ayesha traveled to Contraxia and hired Yondu Udonta to retrieve the Guardians, offering to pay one million units for their capture and delivery back to the Sovereign.

Once Yondu and the Ravagers found Rocket and the crashed Milano on Berhert, Rocket offered to give the batteries to Yondu in exchange for sparing the lives of Groot and himself. Yondu agreed as he decided that he could make more money by selling the batteries than what Ayesha promised him.[1] Though some Ravagers agreed with Yondu's decision, others were angered by this, saying that Yondu had gone soft, with Taserface taking over the Ravagers.
