- "Steven Grant of the gift shop. Give me the scarab and you won't be torn apart."
- ―Arthur Harrow to Steven Grant[src]
The Ambush on Steven Grant was a failed attack on Steven Grant that was planned by Arthur Harrow in order to retrieve the Scarab of Ammit.
Background[]
- "Will you return the scarab?"
"The... The what? Oh, all right. Yeah, the... Oh, you mean..."
"You will give him nothing." - ―Arthur Harrow, Steven Grant and Khonshu[src]
Steven Grant woke up in the Alps of Austria with a broken jaw, and was quickly hunted down by men with guns through the city, running into one of Arthur Harrow's judgment ceremonies. Harrow noticed Grant, who he believed to be Marc Spector, and ordered Grant to hand over the Scarab of Ammit. He originally tried to obey by handing over the Scarab, but his body was controlled by Khonshu, who pulled the scarab away. Harrow's followers chased after Grant, but Spector retook control of his body and killed the attackers. Grant was followed through the Alps but managed to escape from Austria. Harrow found Grant in London as he was dedicated to finding the scarab.[1]
Ambush[]
- "Steven, I can save us. But I can't have you fightin' me this time. You need to give me control."
- ―Marc Spector to Steven Grant[src]
Steven Grant restocked the inventory in the museum gift shop he worked in, alone in discontent. Later, the lights of the museum turned off and Grant prepared to leave for the night, though he stopped when he heard the sound of a howling dog echo through the halls of the building. Grant wandered through the museum to try and find the dog.
Before long, Grant found himself in an open hallway, where the creature closed in on him. Terrified, Grant hid behind a display case when Harrow got onto the museum loudspeakers, ordering him to give up the scarab or else he would be torn apart. Grant took off his satchel and threw it away from him as a distraction, prompting the creature to lunge out and attack it.
Grant attempted to sneak away, though he accidentally bumped into a vase on display. Grant managed to catch it before it fell, though the sound he made alerted the creature, which gave chase to Grant as he ran through the halls of the museum in terror. Grant ran into a side hall, where he threw down a shelf to distance himself from the creature, though the creature simply leaped over it.
Grant frantically used his badge to try and open a locked bathroom, and though he couldn't open the first one in time, he managed to enter the second one adjacent to it, locking himself in it as the creature relentlessly tried to break down the door. Marc Spector began to converse with Grant as his reflection in the mirror began to act independently from the rest, telling him to let him take control.
Grant at first refused, too panicked to do anything, though Spector managed to get his attention, saying that he wasn't going to die and that he had to let Spector save them. Grant finally agreed to Spector's request as the lights of the bathroom began to flicker and hieroglyphics flashed on the walls. Spector began fronting and summoned his Moon Knight suit when the creature finally broke down the door and tackled him.
Moon Knight proceeded to ruthlessly beat the creature into submission, dragging it back into the bathroom when it attempted to flee. He kept pummeling the helpless creature with his fist, until Moon Knight stood victorious over its dead body before exiting the destroyed bathroom.[1] Spector walked out of the bathroom and stared at the security camera in the museum, before returning to Grant's apartment and going to sleep, allowing Grant to front again so that his alter did not suspect anything had happened.[3]
Aftermath[]
- "Am I possessed? Are you, like, a demon? Or..."
"You're in danger, and I can save us, just like I did last night. But I can't have you interfering in what I have left to do." - ―Steven Grant and Marc Spector[src]
Steven Grant awoke in his home, confused about what had happened, and went to work at the National Art Gallery, finding it being cleaned up from the damage suffered the night beforehand. Grant then asked to check the security cameras with J.B., but the jackal was not visible, nor was Grant's transformation. He was fired from his job so that they did not have to press charges, so Grant began looking into his newly discovered alter. Grant learned that Arthur Harrow intended to unleash Ammit, and was attacked, so he allowed Spector to front so that he could save them and Layla El-Faouly.[3] Spector searched for Harrow, but the two continued to fight for control,[4] until they found each other in a hospital, happy to be reunited.[5]
