The Ambush on Daimon Helstrom was an attempt by the Blood to kill Daimon Helstrom, the son of their sworn enemy.

Background[]

For many years, the Blood hunted demons as part of a war against them. They opened up several hotels where they would put demons' hosts into comas until they died, to contain the demon and prevent them from causing havoc.[3] However, they wanted a weapon that could kill demons.[4] Caretaker eventually joined the fight against demons after his family died,[5] until he and the Blood became aware of Ana and Daimon Helstrom, the children of the Blood's sworn enemy, the demon known as Marduk Kurios. Marduk was a serial killer who had kidnapped his daughter and forced her to kill people with him, until she escaped by stabbing him in the leg with his own dagger, which could hurt demons and demon/human hybrids such as Daimon, and fleeing. Marduk caught up with Ana and buried her underground, until Caretaker found her and helped her out.

Ana and Daimon were sent to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health for psychological evaluation while their mother was committed to the psych ward, and Caretaker explained to Dr. Louise Hastings that the Blood would be hunting them given their abilities and parentage. He explained to her that the only option was to separate the children from each other and raise them independently. Without telling them that they had made the decision, Hastings chose to raise Daimon out of fear of Ana, and Ana was sent into the foster care system, where Caretaker would occasionally check on her.[4]

The system kept the twins safe until Basar was freed from his captivity by Kthara, which brought Ana back to Portland, where the siblings reunited.[6] This upset the Blood, who sent Caretaker to take care of the situation.[7] However, Ana decided to stay in Portland when she came to believe that Basar was Marduk.[8] While Ana and Daimon hunted for their father, Basar attacked the Portland Blood Hotel, killing all of the Blood members present and freeing the patients. He took all of the demons with him, except the one possessing Yessenia Flores, and freed Kthara from imprisonment at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health.[2] This upset the Blood and caused Caretaker's loyalty to come into question, so the Blood kidnapped him and brought him to his house, where they identified Marduk Kurios's dagger, intending to use it to kill demons.

The Blood's leader, Esther Smith, used Caretaker's phone to offer Daimon Helstrom a chance to save his mother and find Kthara, who was possessing her, and he at first refused. However, he and Gabriella Rosetti later changed their minds, reluctantly agreeing to meet and discuss a plan, with Caretaker to broker peace.[4]

Daimon's Scar and Screaming

Helstrom realizes he was trapped and gets angry

Daimon Helstrom and Gabriella Rosetti drove to the barn where they were meeting the Blood and entered together, where they saw Esther Smith, Lee, and other Blood members. They whispered to each other about Caretaker not being visible, and Rosetti was not trusting the situation, but Helstrom explained that they would not attack Rosetti, who they saw as innocent, and that they were not dumb enough to try to put him in a Blood Hotel. Lee approached Helstrom and Rosetti, saying that he had to check him before they talk, and Helstrom hesitantly turned around for him while Rosetti was taken away. Lee completed his "check" and went to stab Helstrom with his father's dagger, but Helstrom figured out the plan to stab him and stopped him, throwing another member into a pile of boxes while keeping Lee still with his telekinesis.

Helstrom turned around and saw Lee, realizing that he had his father's dagger, shocking Daimon. While Rosetti struggled against the man holding him, Helstrom demanded to know where he got the dagger from. Rosetti broke free of the man's grip and tried to warn Helstrom as another Blood member cocked his gun, but was too late as Helstrom got shot. Helstrom got back up as his scar lit up and he burned two of the members alive out of anger.

Smith backed and ran off while Helstrom screamed. Freed from Helstrom's telekinetic grip, Lee drop the dagger and ran away, getting in the car with Smith and leaving. Helstrom continued to scream and picked up the dagger while the Blood members continued burning behind him, upsetting Rosetti.[4]

Aftermath[]

Daimon Helstrom and Gabriella Rosetti rushed home, and Helstrom called his sister, who luckily had not been attacked. Realizing that the Blood had his father's dagger, Helstrom and Rosetti went to Helstrom's childhood home to recover the second half. However, the Blood also went, so Helstrom lured them into a trap. He declared the feud between the Blood and the Helstrom family to be over and recovered the second half of the dagger.[9]
