The Ambush in Odesa was a compromised S.H.I.E.L.D. mission excited on the outskirts of Odesa, Ukraine, which resulted in the death of Hope van Dyne.

When her mother was considered killed in action, Hope van Dyne decided to follow her steps as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, although Hank Pym was against that. Regardless, van Dyne became a field agent under Nick Fury's leadership.[1]

Hope van Dyne was tasked by Nick Fury to participate in a S.H.I.E.L.D. field mission in Odesa, Ukraine. However, the mission did not go as planned and van Dyne was killed in action.[1]

Devastated by the death of his daughter, Hank Pym blamed S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury himself. Pym used van Dyne's S.H.I.E.L.D. clearance to access the database and found out about the Avengers Initiative, launched by Fury to assemble a response team. Pym made it his mission to ruin everything Fury had been working for and used the Yellowjacket Suit to assassinate every Initiative candidate, such as Tony Stark, Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, Natasha Romanoff, and even Thor, who was not a candidate. However, Romanoff informed Fury of Pym's participation in the killings, so Fury joined forces with Loki to bring Pym down.[1]
