"He got you too, bitch"
Vernon Masters[src]

The Ambush at the Los Angeles Waste Management Facility was a mission by Jack Thompson to kill Whitney Frost, but conflicting with Peggy Carter's mission to save Jason Wilkes.

Background[]

"What's the play?"
"You trust me?"
"Not at all."
"Good enough."
Daniel Sousa and Jack Thompson[src]

Jack Thompson convinced Vernon Masters to keep Daniel Sousa and Aloysius Samberly alive so that they can create a plan to kill Whitney Frost. As one of Frost's pawns, Masters accepted the conditions. Samberly went to work fixing the Gamma Cannon so that they could give it to her as a gift, but instead shoot her with it. They needed more time, so Thompson met with Frost and bought them time. However, Thompson had his own plan and talked to Frost about bring Masters to her and having her kill him. He then returned to the base and tricked Samberly into making the Cannon into a bomb. As the team drove off, Sousa and Carter's cars wouldn't start, they thought Masters cut the fuel line, but it was Thompson. Sousa forced Samberly to make a fail safe to stop Thompson's detonator from working.[1]

Meanwhile, Peggy Carter. Daniel Sousa, and Aloysius Samberly were outside of the facility. Carter ran in to save Jason Wilkes. She got to him, but he told her he was too unstable and ran off. Carter got back outside and Samberly turned on the fail safe. Thompson told Frost that her way of killing was cleaner than a gun and let her do the honors while he left the building. Thompson walked outside and prepared to press the detonator, but it didn't work. He angrily marched over to Samberly and told him to turn the detonator on, but Samberly refused. Thompson then pulled his gun on Samberly, who gave in. Carter than pulled her gun on Thompson, saying that he was killing an innocent man. Thompson contested that Wilkes was more powerful than any of them combined.

Inside, Frost prepared to kill Masters, but he started laughing. He looked over at the cannon, which was blinking. He gloated that she was going to die. Suddenly, Wilkes walked in and exploded, expelling the Zero Matter. Carter looked at Thompson, but he insisted it wasn't him.[1]

Aftermath[]

"Whatever went off, it definitely wasn't the Gamma Cannon."
Jack Thompson to Daniel Sousa and Peggy Carter[src]

The team ran inside to find that Vernon Masters was gone, he was either obliterated or ran away. Jason Wilkes had expelled the Zero Matter and was free from it. Whitney Frost stood up and held out her hands, causing all of the Zero Mater to rush into her, making her more powerful than ever.

The team opened another rift themselves to lure Frost to them. Frost saw the rift and the team shot the cannon at her. The Zero Matter was expelled from her into the rift. The loss of her powers drove her insane insane and she was locked up in a mental asylum, where she believed Calvin Chadwick was still alive.[2]
