- "We're weapons. But when you're filled with rage, it makes you blind. It could be used, could be manipulated. Trust me, I know."
- ―Clint Barton to Maya Lopez[src]
The Ambush at Fat Man Used Cars was a confrontation between Ronin and the Tracksuit Mafia, led by Maya Lopez.
Background[]
- "Maya, meet me tonight where you first met the Ronin. Alone."
- ―Clint Barton[src]
The Tracksuit Mafia started to target both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop due to a series of circunstances that started with their use of Ronin's suit. As both Barton and Bishop ended up being captured by the Tracksuit Mafia, Maya Lopez demanded Barton to tell her everything he knew about Ronin, since Lopez was determined to avenge her father. Barton told Lopez that Ronin was killed by Black Widow, but she did not believe him and concluded that Barton was hiding Ronin from her. Barton and Bishop managed to get away from the Tracksuit Mafia, and Lopez ordered Kazi Kazimierczak to keep tabs on Barton.[2]
Clint Barton sends a message to Maya Lopez
Searching for Laura Barton's watch, Barton and Bishop infiltrated Lopez's apartment where they found out that Lopez found out the names of Barton's family. The involvement of Yelena Belova during an altercation with Lopez made Barton realize that the forces against them were too dangerous, so he parted ways with Bishop to deal with it on his own.[3] Collecting the Ronin suit, Barton sent a message to Lopez, so she would come to the Fat Man Used Cars, the place where Ronin killed her father.[1]
Ambush[]
Maya Lopez confronts the Ronin
- "I wanted you to see my face."
"So I can watch you kill me?"
"No. But if you or anyone comes after me or my family, it will be the last thing you do. You have my word." - ―Clint Barton and Maya Lopez[src]
At night, Maya Lopez waited at the Fat Man Used Cars, with Kazi Kazimierczak staying at the sniper position, and other Tracksuit Mafia waiting in an ambush. Aware about an ambush, Ronin initially started clearing the area by knocking Kazimierczak out and stealthily taking out the rest of the Tracksuit members. Despite being outnumbered, Ronin neutralized all of them without spilling any blood, until Lopez found herself alone. Lopez attempted to shoot her enemy, but he avoided all of her bullets, before she got out of ammo. Face to face with Ronin, Lopez engaged in a combat with the vigilante, even using his own sword against him. Ronin managed to disarm her and they continued to fight, until the Ronin regained his sword and got an upper hand.
Maya Lopez attempts to kill Clint Barton
Being defeated, Lopez prepared to be finished off by the Ronin, however, he took off his mask and revealed himself as Clint Barton. Barton told Lopez that he would spare her, but warned her to stay away from his family for her own sake. Lopez was hesitant to back down, since Barton was the one who killed her father, but according to Barton, on that day, he received a tip from Wilson Fisk that led him to William's location. Refusing to believe Barton, Lopez struck him down and attempted to execute him with his sword, only to be stopped by Kate Bishop who disarmed Lopez with her arrow. Using Lopez's distraction, Barton and Bishop managed to get away from the scene, leaving confused Lopez alone.[1]
Aftermath[]
Maya Lopez has a meeting with Wilson Fisk
- "Why weren't you at the meeting that night?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You were in town. You were his number two. Why didn't you go to the meeting the night my father was murdered?" - ―Maya Lopez and Kazi Kazimierczak[src]
Maya Lopez met with Kazi Kazimierczak to start inquiring about the revelation that Ronin gave her about the reasons he massacred the Tracksuit Mafia, and asked him why he was not present at the Tracksuit Mafia meeting at the night when her father died. Kazimierczak excused himself, saying that he did not receive a call, and although Lopez did not believe him, she pretended that she did.[1] Afterwards, Lopez met with Wilson Fisk and told him that she decided to abandon her quest to kill Ronin, as well as that she is stepping down from the Mafia's business.
Maya Lopez preparing to shoot Wilson Fisk
Lopez prepared to leave New York City, however, she could not forgive Fisk who had her father murdered and manipulated Lopez the whole time. Lopez turned against the Tracksuit Mafia and during the confrontation at the Rockefeller Center, she confronted Kazimierczak. Lopez tried to convince Kazimierczak to put the Mafia behind but he could not, since Fisk would not let him leave. In the subsequent confrontation, Lopez heavily wounded Kazimierczak, although she did not intend to, but had to leave him behind. Afterwards, Lopez found Fisk running away from the NYPD and confronted him with a gun in her hand.[4]
