"Bail is denied. Ms. Stokes Dillard's passport is to be revoked, and she is to be remanded to Ryker's until a trial date is set."
"Your Honor, may I speak?"
"I can't believe I'm actually entertaining this, but proceed."
―Amanda Garmon and Mariah Stokes[src]

Mariah Stokes' Trial[]

"Objection! Again, for the fourth time."
"Mr. Donovan, need I remind you, there are no cameras in this courtroom?"
"That's hard to believe, given the way District Attorney Tower is acting, Your Honor."
Benjamin Donovan and Amanda Garmon[src]

Amanda Garmon was assigned to preside over the trial of Mariah Stokes, who was indicted for twelve counts of first degree murders, with Blake Tower and Colin Dunbar on the prosecution side. When Tower presented his case, Benjamin Donovan raised an objection, to which Garmon noted that there were no cameras in the courtroom, so there was no need for dramatic gestures. Donovan claimed that Tower was just grandstanding during what should be a simple arraignment for a first time offender, but Tower disagreed. He told Garmon that Stokes is responsible for the Rum Punch Massacre, as well as SEC violations in regards of the Atreus Plastics merger that she contributed to.

Garmon then listened to Donovan reminding the court that Stokes was an upstanding member of the community, citing her charity initiatives and her being a Delta Sigma Theta member, like Garmon herself. However, his speech was interrupted by attendees who caused an outburst and cursed Stokes for having their relatives killed, so Garmon demanded order in the court and had the attendees removed from the courtroom. Garmon then ruled that Stokes would be held at Ryker's Island without bail until a trial date is set, while her passport would be revoked. Stokes then asked if she could have a word before the verdict, and Garmon reluctantly agreed to let her speak.

Stokes said that her family always acted as a wall around Harlem, protecting it from the outside forces, but that wall is about to crumble without her. She went on to claim that now that there were no Stokes to protect Harlem, the hurricane of crime and chaos would soon engulf the entire neighborhood, and she was the only one who could bring back the peace. In response, Garmon found Stokes' statement offensive, due to her references to Hurricane Katrina, as her family in Louisiana lost everything because of it. Stokes insisted that everyone in Harlem needed her free, but Garmon dismissed her claims and Stokes was taken into the custody per her verdict.[1]
