"If it is revenge you seek, kill all the gods!"
―All-Black to Gorr[src]

All-Black the Necrosword was a powerful weapon once wielded by the Dark Shadow Lord and later by Gorr the God Butcher. Gorr obtained the sword from the deceased Shadow Lord and used it to slay his first god. Gorr wielded the Necrosword in his intergalactic crusade against all gods, though it slowly corrupted him, as well as binding his life-force to it. The Necrosword was ultimately destroyed by Mighty Thor using Mjølnir, who shattered it into pieces.

History[]

Creation[]

"It's an ancient weapon that's been passed through hands since the dawn of time."
Thor[src]

All-Black the Necrosword was forged at the dawn of time and was imbued with the power to slay gods along with the ability to corrupt its wielders and restore itself if destroyed. For generations, it was passed down through many hands.[1]

Dark Shadow Lord's Possession[]

"We just vanquished the holder of the Necrosword before he could harm any other gods with that cursed blade."
Rapu to Gorr[src]

The Necrosword on Rapu's Planet

All-Black was found and taken by the Dark Shadow Lord, who intended to use it to wipe out all of the gods. In 2025, it was taken to Rapu's Planet where its user was battled and eventually killed by Rapu and the Necrosword was left abandoned in the grass, beside the corpse of its dead owner. Following the Dark Shadow Lord's defeat, Rapu and several of his followers celebrated, leaving the Necrosword unattended.[1]

Gorr's Possession[]

"Summon the Bifrost to Eternity."
―All-Black to Gorr[src]

Needing another user, All-Black called out to Gorr, leading him to its location. When Rapu attempted to kill Gorr for renouncing him, All-Black floated into the latter's hand and empowered him, giving him a vision of the Gates of Eternity and prompting him to summon the Bifrost Bridge to access Eternity, while at the same time urging him to kill all the gods. After killing Rapu, Gorr went on a crusade to butcher any and all gods that crossed his path. Eventually, Gorr arrived on Earth and used All-Black to summon Shadow Monsters to attack the Asgardians in New Asgard, Norway. Gorr then attacked Thor, who recognized All-Black.

Later, Gorr used the Necrosword to summon more Shadow Monsters and to fight Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster in the Shadow Realm. Later, Gorr used All-Black again to fight Thor and Foster at the Gates of Eternity. Ultimately, Foster used Mjølnir to destroy All-Black, in which All-Black shattered. However, as All-Black began to automatically restore itself, Foster tried to trap the pieces in Mjølnir, but when it proved to be ineffective, as some of the pieces were able to escape, she used the hammer's might to shatter the rest that were trapped. Ultimately, this caused All-Black to disintegrate completely, thus freeing Gorr from its influence.[1]

Capabilities[]

"It has the ability to slay gods, but it slowly corrupts and kills whoever wields it."
Thor[src]

The Necrosword was a very powerful sword capable of killing gods. It enhanced the owner's attributes to a superhuman level and allowed the owner to teleport to other locations and dimensions using shadows. Additionally, the weapon was also capable of conjuring Shadow Monsters to serve its owner's evil machinations.

The Necrosword also corrupted the wielder's mind and had the power to imbue visions in their minds, installing a deep and homicidal hatred for the gods. The corruption also linked the wielder's vital life-force to the Necrosword, which would slowly kill them. Hence, the wielder would slowly succumb to death if the Necrosword was destroyed.

Moreover, All-Black could restore itself if its blade was shattered into pieces. However, the Necrosword would permanently disintegrate if any pieces of the blade were completely destroyed.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, All-Black the Necrosword was the first symbiote. It was manifested from the shadow of the evil deity Knull and tempered inside the head of a Celestial now known as Knowhere.
