Vibranium in Africa
2.5 million years ago, a meteorite made of an alien metal landed in the heart of Africa, greatly affecting the surrounding flora. Centuries later, five tribes colonized the area and went to war over the metal, which they referred to as Isipho. One day, Bashenga was guided by a vision of Bast who led him towards a plant that had mutated as a result of the metal's powers.
Discovery of Vibranium
Howard Stark, founder and CEO of Stark Industries, sent his researchers to Africa. In one of its deepest regions, they managed to discover vibranium, a rare metal that supposedly absorbed vibrations and kinetic energy naturally. Stark crafted a shield with the vibranium to host a demonstration of this discovery at Ciro's, a famous local nightclub in Los Angeles.
World War II
During World War II, North Africa became the site of many hard battles fought between the Allies and the Axis forces. Led by the Afrika Korps, the German-Italian army conquered many territories. However, in 1942, the British Armed Forces managed to defeat the Axis troops in the battle of El Alamein. By 1943, the Allies managed to inflict heavy casualties upon the Axis. Steve Rogers was supposed to have a tour as Captain America for the Allied soldiers stationed in North Africa, but when he became a hero by saving nearly 400 Allied POWs from the HYDRA facility in Austria, the tour was cancelled.
The African nation of Wakanda was marked as a "hot-spot" for activities monitored by S.H.I.E.L.D. As such, it was displayed in the holographic maps used by the organization to oversee those activities, such as the ones present in the room where Nick Fury met with Tony Stark to discuss his formal integration into the Avengers Initiative.

Once HYDRA revealed their infiltration within S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA operatives started a siege and attacking every S.H.I.E.L.D. facility they had access to, including the S.H.I.E.L.D. East African Headquarters and the Sandbox. The HYDRA agents stationed at the headquarters managed to take control of them.
At the Sandbox, the latent brainwashing of Donnie Gill, who was imprisoned and brainwashed here following his creation of a large scale Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device that caused a super storm over the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology, was activated in order to seize control of the base for HYDRA. Together, with the rest of HYDRA operatives embedded at the base, Gill managed to take the Sandbox quickly despite the escape of some loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
In 2015, the Avengers travelled to Johannesburg, South Africa in order to stop Ultron making a deal with Ulysses Klaue at the Salvage Yard. However, all but Clint Barton were incapacitated by Wanda Maximoff who produced visions that messed with their minds. Due to this, Hulk, angered by his vision, went on a rampage throughout the city and Tony Stark in his Hulkbuster armor had to stop him.
In 2016, Crossbones and his men went to Lagos, Nigeria to steal a biological weapon at the IFID Headquarters. However, he was met by Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, and Wanda Maximoff who arrived to stop him. During the fight, Crossbones attempted to commit suicide by blowing himself up along with Rogers, but Maximoff contained the explosion and sent him into a nearby building, accidentally killing Wakandan humanitarian workers inside. This event, along with others, led to the passing of the Sokovia Accords.
New King of Wakanda
A week after the Accords were passed, T'Challa, in his Panther Habit was picked up by Okoye who flew him to Nigeria to a jungle where they retrieved Nakia from her War Dogs mission. T'Challa was dropped down by a chute hole on the ground and saw a Boko Haram group driving to their destination. He sent EMP beads downward onto their trucks, which immediately delivered a powerful EMP which forced all the vehicles to stop and made them unable to start again. Taking the opportunity, T'Challa landed onto a tree and stealthily wait until the human traffickers approached him. After they did, T'Challa fought them off and saved the kidnapped woman and child soldier. They then left to go back to Wakanda where T'Challa was to be crowned the new king.
Back in the Golden City, T'Challa met with Shuri and Ramonda before going to Warrior Falls. There he took the Heart-Shaped Herb and was challenged to a duel by the Jabari Tribe leader M'Baku. In the end, T'Challa was crowned as the new king of Wakanda.
Later, while visiting the Border Tribe and his friend W'Kabi, T'Challa was told by Okoye about Ulysses Klaue's newest mission. This prompted T'Challa to leave Wakanda to confront him for his crimes against their nation.
After Everett Ross was injured, T'Challa brought him back to Wakanda to be treated by Shuri in her lab. When Ross was healed, he gave T'Challa and the others insight on Erik Killmonger, who had breached the border. When Killmonger arrived, he told T'Challa to duel him, in which T'Challa agreed. However, Killmonger defeat T'Challa and seized the throne. Ramonda, Shuri, and Nakia fled to Jabari Land with Ross and found out that M'Baku had recovered T'Challa from the bottom of the Falls. After giving him the last Herb, T'Challa recovered and made a plan to stop Killmonger.
During the Battle of Mount Bashenga, Nakia, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje fought against Killmonger, but were easily defeated. After seeing Shuri get threatened by Killmonger, T'Challa tackled into him and knocked them down to the Wakandan Maglev Train. After a fight, T'Challa stabbed Killmonger and helped him see the sunset as he died from his wounds. Afterwards, T'Challa reclaimed the throne and later opened Wakanda's borders to the rest of the world, including other African countries.
In 2018, members of the Avengers travelled to Wakanda, with Sam Wilson piloting the Quinjet, in order to get help concerning Vision. Wilson expressed hesitation while flying over the African forests to Wakanda but Steve Rogers assured him to keep going straight. Once they landed at the Golden City, T'Challa greeted them and took them to the place where Vision and the Mind Stone were to be examined by Shuri. Wanda Maximoff remained behind to stand guard to remove the Stone after it was out.
The others left to join T'Challa and the other Wakandan armies on the field as Outrider Dropships crashed into the ground outside Wakanda's border. Proxima Midnight and Cull Obsidian, members of the Black Order, arrived and unleashed a horde of Outriders on the Avengers and Wakandans engaging in the battle. After Threshers ripped through the ground below, Maximoff flew to the battlefield and rendered the vehicles useless. Also during the battle, Thor arrived with Rocket Raccoon and Groot. With Maximoff gone, Corvus Glaive infiltrated and knocked out Shuri, leading Vision to fight him and they fell into the forest below.
After the Outriders were defeated, Thanos arrived through a portal with the Infinity Gauntlet and eventually after defeating the Avengers and Vision, completed the Gauntlet. However, Thor injured him with his new weapon, but Thanos still was able to enact the Snap before teleporting away. The consequences of the Snap happened fast, as Bucky Barnes, Wilson, Maximoff, Groot, and Wakandan warriors disintegrated away, leaving the survivors in defeat.
