Adam Warlock is a Sovereign created by his mother Ayesha as a living weapon designed to kill the Guardians of the Galaxy. He was prematurely awakened by High Evolutionary, who tasked him with capturing Rocket Raccoon, only for Adam's efforts to be thwarted by the Guardians. Adam joined his mother Ayesha on a trip to Counter-Earth to retrieve Rocket under threat of Sovereign extinction, although High Evolutionary destroyed the planet, killing Ayesha in the process. Adam eventually tried to attack High Evolutionary's ship but failed yet again and was rescued by Groot. In redemption, Adam later saved Star-Lord from dying in space and joined the new Guardians roster under Rocket's leadership.

However, Ayesha remained confident in still being able to exact vengeance against the Guardians. Using an advanced birth pod, Ayesha began creating a being capable of defeating the Guardians.
  +
Adam was soon awoken from his cocoon slightly early by High Evolutionary, who wanted him to find subject 89P13. Adam, taking on the title of the Warlock, flew across space toward Knowhere, where Rocket and the Guardians of the Galaxy were supposed to be located. He spotted Rocket by the window and then proceeded to crash into him. Adam tackled Rocket and crashed him through several rooms until he and Rocket crashed outside of Star-Lord's window.
  +

  +
Outside, Adam held Rocket in his hands, but Rocket managed to escape after scrambling out of his grasp. Adam called out to him before being confronted by Nebula, now wearing a jetpack and heavily upgraded cybernetic arm cannon. She demanded him to stand down, but Adam attacked her before she blasted him to an apartment. However, Adam was unfazed by the blast and clashed with Nebula, forcing her to crash in the middle of Exitar. He pinned Nebula down on the ground and mercilessly punched her repeatedly, heavily damaging and tossing her away into a shop nearby.
  +

  +
Next, Groot jumped down and toppled Adam. He tried to fight back, but Groot had his roots wrapped around him tightly, forcing Adam to boost himself and Groot up in the air around the Knowhere buildings. He blasted some of the roots off him and then proceeded to rip Groot to shreds by dragging him across the buildings before he came down with only Groot's head remaining. As Groot fled, Adam walked around to find Rocket, only to be ambushed by a Yaka Arrow. However, the arrow weakly deflected off of Adam's cheek, annoying him. Adam spoke out for whoever threw the arrow at him. When there was no answer, he merely uttered that the attacker was a baby.
  +

  +
He finally managed to locate Rocket at the armory, and before Rocket could attack, Adam blasted him with his ray powers, severely wounding the Halfworlder. Mantis found Adam and attacked, but he grabbed her arm and easily broke it in half before throwing Mantis aside. Next came Star-Lord, who blasted Adam with his Quad Blasters, but this was no use once again.
  +

  +
Despite doing no harm, Star-Lord distracted Adam long enough for Drax the Destroyer to sneak up behind him and pick him up. Drax punched Adam across the shops and then threw him over to another shop. Despite that, Adam remained unfazed and then attacked Drax with a headbutt and multiple punches before using his ray lasers to blast Drax. However, Drax survived as Adam approached him and beat the latter up senselessly.

Adam focused on Drax, allowing a healed Nebula to come up behind him and stab Adam through the chest. A shocked Adam remarked at how that hurt before collapsing to the ground. Adam soon mustered the strength to get up as everyone checked on the injured Rocket. He used this commotion to make his getaway, struggling to fly off back to Arête Laboratories on Counter-Earth.

Adam returned to the Arête Laboratories, the main headquarters of High Evolutionary on Counter-Earth. Ayesha, devastated over Adam's sorry state, used one of the Med-Paks to heal the stab injury. She cradled him in her arms, and he commented that it still hurt before the High Evolutionary and his close advisors came to the hanger to confront them. He admonished Ayesha for his failures, while Ayesha rebuked him for failing to underestimate the powers of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Nonetheless, he mocked Adam for being a so-called false higher being of the Sovereign people, to which Ayesha defended by telling him he opened his pod too early. The High Evolutionary did not care, to which Adam became vigilant over. The High Evolutionary told her that there was still something wrong with him, despite being let out early. Adam spoke up, saying that there was, in fact, something wrong with him as there was a hole in his chest.
  +

  +
Adam continued yelling at High Evolutionary; however, the High Evolutionary started to hurdle him against the wall, using his gravity powers. The High Evolutionary reprimanded Ayesha for not only failing to retrieve 89P13, but also failing to notify him of his existence without conforming his status. Ayesha pleaded with the High Evolutionary for a second chance to make it up to him. The High Evolutionary agreed and dropped Adam, freeing him from his torture before he warned her if she would fail again, he would destroy the entire Sovereign civilization because it was his right as their creator.

Arriving at the Orgoscope
I really don't enjoy how that's making me feel, actually.
  +
The Sovereign had a chance to make it up to High Evolutionary when the Guardians of the Galaxy were reported to infiltrate the Orgoscope. Adam and Ayesha arrived at the Orgoscope, but found a ravager outside of the premises. They brought him in for interrogation. As a curious Adam admired and examined the room, Ayesha did her work on Fitz-Gibbonok and his pet, Blurp. When Fitz-Gibbonok refused to answer, Ayesha told Adam to show him they meant business. An immature Adam took this as a sign to kill him, so he obliterated Fitz-Gibbonok.
  +

  +
Adam looked at his mother, proud of himself for following orders. However, Ayesha only snapped at Adam for being a clumsy fool. Adam tried to defend his actions, but his mother scolded him even further now that Fitz-Gibbonok was dead, and they could no longer get any information from the Guardians. Adam suggested they interrogate his little companion friend, Blurp, but Ayesha responded that Blurp was an animal, and that he could not even speak up. Adam looked at the sad Blurp and started to have doubts about their actions, saying that he did not like how it made him feel.
  +

  +
Master Karja made fun of Adam, telling Ayesha that he had a moron just like Adam. Just then, Gamora contacted Fitz-Gibbonok through his communicator, to which Ayesha responded by interpreting her as a United Ravagers crew member. Gamora told her to send a crew to come pick her up as she would send her the coordinates to find the Guardians' ship, the Bowie. Before they left, Adam noticed Blurp and, feeling sorry for killing his owner, decided to take him with them to Counter-Earth and promised to train him, much to Ayesha's annoyance.

Battle of Counter-Earth
  +
They followed the Guardians of the Galaxy to Counter-Earth, where Adam and Blurp flew out to find the Guardians. He intercepted War Pig on the Bowie and stopped her from killing Gamora. War Pig reminded him they were working for the same boss, the High Evolutionary, and Adam agreed, but he needed to be credited with Rocket's capture so he could save his civilization, so he told her to stand down and let him handle it. War Pig refused and tried to retaliate back, but Adam simply grabbed her head and snapped it, decapitating the Hell Spawn.
  +

  +
Adam then noticed that Gamora was gone, along with Rocket. He came out to the opening of the ship, only to notice that the Humanimals were looking over at Arête Laboratories. He looked over there and realized that the lab was starting to lift upwards. He sensed something was wrong and looked down at the inhabitants. He was shocked when the High Evolutionary began to blow up Counter-Earth in an attempt to start over upon realizing it failed at being the perfect society.
  +

  +
He was appalled at the senseless genocide, but soon realized Ayesha had no idea. He dropped Blurp down and then flew around to begin to frantically search for Ayesha and her ship. Eventually, he found her still inside of their ship, but with so many explosions going off around him, Adam screamed out to his mother right before Ayesha was killed by the explosions that destroyed her ship. The explosion knocked Adam back into more explosions as Counter-Earth was being destroyed.
  +

  +
Adam managed to survive the explosions, but he was left exhausted and wounded. Devastated, Adam returned to the Bowie so he could get Rocket back to the High Evolutionary. As he was on the entrance of the ship, Adam was confronted by Gamora. He tried to fight, but was too exhausted and injured, causing him to merely collapse to the floor.

Adam regained consciousness in the Bowie to find himself strapped to a bed with metal bars confiding his body. He looked up and saw Blurp sitting on him. Using his immense strength, Adam broke free from his restrains so he could confront the Guardians of the Galaxy once again.
  +

  +
Taking Blurp with him, Adam flew into the space battle between Knowhere and Arête Laboratories. He spotted the ship Star-Lord and Gamora were in and crashed himself inside, causing the ship to spiral out of control. Enraged over the death of Ayesha and the failures of his mission, Adam got up and moved in to attack Gamora, but she grabbed Blurp and pulled out her sword, threatening that she would kill Blurp, causing Adam to hesitate as the ship crashed onto High Evolutionary's ship.
  +

  +
Meanwhile, Star-Lord was able to input a self-destruction code into the ship's mainframe before he tackled Gamora and Blurp out of the ship. It then crashed inside the hangar of Arête Laboratories. Adam was trapped inside and could not escape as the fighter ship exploded with Adam still inside.
  +

  +
Arête Laboratories was starting to take heavy damage from both the inside and out after being inflicted with catastrophic damage from Knowhere's giant cannon. While the Guardians were taking the prisoners of the High Evolutionary to safety, Adam was able to survive the explosion and came out to confront Groot, who was escorting the Star Children in the hallways to safety. Seeing a Guardian in his sights, he screamed with his ray laser powers charged up and ready to shoot. However, before he could do so, Adam passed out once again after surviving another explosion that exhausted him. Groot hesitated at first, but then he decided to take Adam with him since he could not leave Adam to die in the exploding ship.

Second Chance
  +

  +
Groot carried the unconscious Adam in his arms to escort the prisoners across the ship into the opening of Knowhere. Once the shield was disabled, the Knowhere inhabitants took in the Star Children while Groot carried Adam over to safety just before he gained consciousness. An awake Adam was surprised by Groot's actions and asked why he saved him, despite the fact that he tried to kill him and the Guardians of the Galaxy before. In response, Groot answered that everyone deserved to have a second chance.
  +

  +
While on Knowhere, Adam was inspired by Groot's words and the heroism of the Guardians saving the Star Children and all of the animals from Earth. Adam watched as the defeated High Evolutionary's lab exploded. As it did, Star-Lord dropped his Zune, so he went back to grab it. Star-Lord attempted to get out of the craft and hurdled himself into space without a spacesuit over to Knowhere. However, debris were blocking his way and Star-Lord started dying from exposure to the deep-space environment, despite the Guardians' attempt to save him. As Star-Lord was dying from the cold space, Adam decided to rescue Star-Lord when the latter nearly froze to death in space.
  +

  +
He flew in and grabbed Star-Lord before starting to rocket himself back to Knowhere. Star-Lord recovered and the Guardians, including Blurp, made a group hug around him for being alive. Adam was hesitant at first, but he decided to also join in on the hug. Later, Adam sat down and rested up with a blanket being offered to him, which he accepted and wrapped himself to keep warm.
  +

As he recovered, he heard the song, "Dog Days Are Over", being played on the speakers, which he happily listened to while tears formed in his eyes. After the celebration, Kraglin Obfonteri then walked over, handed Adam a cup of water and talked with him. As the two had a conversation, Obfonteri remarked that Adam was not a good name and suggested that he think of a better hero name. However, Adam told him that he liked it.

The Guardians of the Galaxy decided to break up as some of the members wanted to explore new opportunities. With a void to fill, Adam took up his decision to join the Guardians under the leadership of Rocket Raccoon. Sometime later, Adam and the other Guardians were hired to protect some Krylorian townspeople from a stampede of creatures on Krylor.
  +

While waiting for the stampede, they discussed their favorite musical acts, with Adam remarking that he enjoyed Adrian Belew, both as soloist and his collaborations with King Crimson. Rocket began playing his favorite song "Come and Get Your Love", which Adam and the other Guardians enjoyed until the stampede arrived. Adam and the other Guardians then began to charge into battle, on Rocket's word.

  +
Personality
  +
Adam Warlock is initially seen to be a childish and naive Sovereign despite being the best of his race. This is due to him being a newborn and being taken out of the birth pod earlier than anticipated by his creator to attack and capture Rocket Raccoon. After he was taken out of the birth pod, as a newborn, he is unfamiliar to the ways of the galaxy and how people interact with each other, leading him to do naive acts and behave like a kid, such as repeatedly making childish remarks, being curious about the design of the Orgoscope and not concentrating on the interrogation of Fitz-Gibbonok, or overly fixating on the fact that he was hurt from a stab wound from Nebula.
  +
  +
When asked to interrogate a Ravager member to gather the whereabouts of the Guardians, he misinterpreted the order and killed the member. He initially did not have the ability to think independently, as his sole purpose of creation was to destroy the Guardians and he would often blindly follow his mother Ayesha's orders. He cared for the Sovereign as he ruthlessly killed War Pig so that he can take Rocket to the High Evolutionary in exchange for the safety of his people. He also deeply loved his mother, Ayesha, and protected his mother at times, such as when he supported his mother when she was chastised by High Evolutionary for failing to deliver Rocket, although he failed to shield her from the destruction of Counter-Earth. Adam's behavior indicates that he did not behave the way he did out of any malice, but merely out of the desire to please his mother and protect his people.
  +
  +
Despite his violent actions, he is still pure at heart due to his youth and naivety. After he killed Fitz-Gibbonok, he saw the way Blurp mourned the death of his caretaker and became uncomfortable with the guilt of killing another being and the grief it caused others. Afterward, he adopted Blurp and grew to greatly care for him. He refused his mother's order to kill Blurp, demonstrating his increasing ability to think for himself, and later told Gamora to calm down when she threatened to kill Blurp. Even after being drastically weakened in an explosion and nearly killed after trying to attack the Guardians, they rescued him and took him to safety on Knowhere. This was where Adam learns the true meaning of helping people in need and that everyone deserves a second chance.
  +
  +
Through this realization and seeing the Guardians' heroic efforts, Adam became inspired by them and decided to rescue Star-Lord when the latter nearly froze to death in space and became a member of the new incarnation of the team, showcasing a more mature side and still learning to adopt to the ways of the people. Adam is also learning to become a hero and protect the innocent in his own right. In addition, Adam is learning to socialize and communicate with others, as he seems to enjoy listening to music as he bonded with his teammates about their favorite artists before joining the battle on Krylor.

Powers and Abilities
  +
Powers
  +
*Sovereign Physiology: Designed to be the best of his race, Adam Warlock possesses superhuman attributes and abilities that no other Sovereign has. Given that he was released from his cocoon pre-maturely to capture Rocket Raccoon, it can be assumed that his full potential has yet to be reached.
  +
**Superhuman Strength: Adam Warlock possesses tremendous physical strength unmatched by many of his enemies. From his first encounter with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Knowhere, he was able to easily overpower the Guardians, breaking Nebula's body and tossing her away, decapitating Groot, effortlessly breaking Mantis' arm and physically surpassing Drax the Destroyer, punching him into submission and would have killed him had Nebula not intervened and stabbed him. Later, Adam decapitated War Pig and is capable of creating huge gaps in the wall of the Bowie while chasing Gamora.
  +
**Superhuman Durability: Adam Warlock's body possesses tremendous amounts of physical resilience. He was capable of surviving Nebula's blasts, Groot and Drax the Destroyer physical attacks, Kraglin Obfonteri's Yaka Arrow, being telekinetically slammed and pressed into a wall by the High Evolutionary and a large explosion caused by the destruction of the Bowie. He was also able to survive being knocked back by the High Evolutionary's ship.
  +
**Superhuman Speed: Warlock can move and react at superhuman speeds. However he can be caught off guard, as shown when he was overpowered by Groot and Drax, and later being stabbed by Nebula.
  +
**Superhuman Agility: Adam's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
  +
**Superhuman Stamina: Adam's muscles produce considerably fewer fatigue cells during physical activities than a human's muscles. He can exert himself for long periods without getting tired.
  +
**Superhuman Reflexes: Adam's reflexes are enhanced to superhuman levels and are superior to those of the finest human athlete. But he can still be caught off guard as shown in his fight against Groot, Drax and later he was stabbed by Nebula's sword.
  +
**Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his advanced durability, Adam Warlock can still be injured, as shown when he was stabbed by Nebula's sword, and suffered injuries from the Guardians, and a massive explosion caused by the self-destruction of the Bowie while trying to capture Rocket. However, he is able to heal quickly enough to save Star-Lord later, albeit he required a Med-Pak to heal from the stab wound by Nebula.
  +
**Longevity: To be added
  +
**Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Adam can manipulate cosmic energy to use for different purposes.
  +
***Energy Blast: He is able to shoot golden energy blasts from his hands, powerful enough to fatally injure Rocket Raccoon, as well as turn a Ravager into a skeleton.
  +
***Flight: Adam can manipulate energy in order to fly at high speeds.
  +
***Heat Generation: Adam has the ability to generate heat from his body, such as when he killed the War Pig.
  +
**Self-Sustenance: Adam Warlock is capable of surviving in space without any space suit. Therefore, he was able to save Peter Quill who nearly froze to death in space after the Guardians of the Galaxy defeated High Evolutionary.
  +
  +
Abilities
  +
*Expert Combatant: Warlock is a skilled combatant. Being able to fight and defeat members of the Guardians of the Galaxy evenly with the use of his powers, despite all of them being more experienced than Adam.

"I am the Warlock, Mom, and I am done with being ordered around!"
―Adam Warlock to Ayesha[src]

Ayesha's Revenge

"That, my child, is the next step in our evolution. More powerful. More beautiful. More capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy."

Following the Battle on Ego's Planet, Ayesha feared the Sovereign council would seek to punish her for her humiliating defeat at the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which resulted in the destruction of an entire fleet of Omnicrafts.

However, Ayesha remained confident in still being able to exact vengeance against the Guardians. Using an advanced birth pod, Ayesha began creating a being capable of defeating the Guardians. While showing the Birth Pod to her chambermaid, Ayesha decided to name her creation Adam.[2]

"And that is meant to be the Warlock, the apogee of your people."
"You removed him from his cocoon early, my liege."
High Evolutionary to Ayesha[src]

Adam was soon awoken from his cocoon slightly early by High Evolutionary, who wanted him to find subject 89P13. Adam, taking on the title of the Warlock, flew across space toward Knowhere, where Rocket and the Guardians of the Galaxy were supposed to be located. He spotted Rocket by the window and then proceeded to crash into him. Adam tackled Rocket and crashed him through several rooms until he and Rocket crashed outside of Star-Lord's window.

Nebula meets Adam Warlock

Adam is ordered to surrender by Nebula

Groot vs

Adam being strangled by Groot

The Warlock cometh

Adam fatally blasts Rocket Raccoon

He finally managed to locate Rocket at the armory, and before Rocket could attack, Adam blasted him with his ray powers, severely wounding the Halfworlder. Mantis found Adam and attacked, but he grabbed her arm and easily broke it in half before throwing Mantis aside. Next came Star-Lord, who blasted Adam with his Quad Blasters, but this was no use once again.

Adam punching Drax

Adam repeatedly hits Drax the Destroyer

Despite doing no harm, Star-Lord distracted Adam long enough for Drax the Destroyer to sneak up behind him and pick him up. Drax punched Adam across the shops and then threw him over to another shop. Despite that, Adam remained unfazed and then attacked Drax with a headbutt and multiple punches before using his ray lasers to blast Drax. However, Drax survived as Adam approached him and beat the latter up senselessly.

Exitar Knowhere

Adam escapes after being wounded

Adam focused on Drax, allowing a healed Nebula to come up behind him and stab Adam through the chest. A shocked Adam remarked at how that hurt before collapsing to the ground. Adam soon mustered the strength to get up as everyone checked on the injured Rocket. He used this commotion to make his getaway, struggling to fly off back to Arête Laboratories on Counter-Earth.[1]

Recovering and Torture

"Yes! There's something wrong with me! I was stabbed, your extraordinary phallus!"
―Adam Warlock to High Evolutionary[src]

Adam in Pain

Adam being hurt by High Evolutionary

Adam continued yelling at High Evolutionary; however, the High Evolutionary started to hurdle him against the wall, using his gravity powers. The High Evolutionary reprimanded Ayesha for not only failing to retrieve 89P13, but also failing to notify him of his existence without conforming his status. Ayesha pleaded with the High Evolutionary for a second chance to make it up to him. The High Evolutionary agreed and dropped Adam, freeing him from his torture before he warned her if she would fail again, he would destroy the entire Sovereign civilization because it was his right as their creator.[1]

Arriving at the Orgoscope

Curious Adam

"I really don't enjoy how that's making me feel, actually."
―Adam Warlock[src]

Regretful Warlock

Adam speaks of his regret about killing

Master Karja made fun of Adam, telling Ayesha that he had a moron just like Adam. Just then, Gamora contacted Fitz-Gibbonok through his communicator, to which Ayesha responded by interpreting her as a United Ravagers crew member. Gamora told her to send a crew to come pick her up as she would send her the coordinates to find the Guardians' ship, the Bowie. Before they left, Adam noticed Blurp and, feeling sorry for killing his owner, decided to take him with them to Counter-Earth and promised to train him, much to Ayesha's annoyance.[1]

Battle of Counter-Earth

Adam Warlock and Blurp

Adam arrives with Blurp to tackle War Pig

"What the hell, we're working for the same boss."
"Yes, but I need the credit, chum. To save my entire civilization. So be a good creepy... thing, and back off."
War Pig and Adam Warlock[src]

They followed the Guardians of the Galaxy to Counter-Earth, where Adam and Blurp flew out to find the Guardians. He intercepted War Pig on the Bowie and stopped her from killing Gamora. War Pig reminded him they were working for the same boss, the High Evolutionary, and Adam agreed, but he needed to be credited with Rocket's capture so he could save his civilization, so he told her to stand down and let him handle it. War Pig refused and tried to retaliate back, but Adam simply grabbed her head and snapped it, decapitating the Hell Spawn.

War Pig Death

Adam kills War Pig to capture Rocket

Adam then noticed that Gamora was gone, along with Rocket. He came out to the opening of the ship, only to notice that the Humanimals were looking over at Arête Laboratories. He looked over there and realized that the lab was starting to lift upwards. He sensed something was wrong and looked down at the inhabitants. He was shocked when the High Evolutionary began to blow up Counter-Earth in an attempt to start over upon realizing it failed at being the perfect society.

Adam Warlock in flight

Adam flies towards Ayesha to save her

He was appalled at the senseless genocide, but soon realized Ayesha had no idea. He dropped Blurp down and then flew around to begin to frantically search for Ayesha and her ship. Eventually, he found her still inside of their ship, but with so many explosions going off around him, Adam screamed out to his mother right before Ayesha was killed by the explosions that destroyed her ship. The explosion knocked Adam back into more explosions as Counter-Earth was being destroyed.

Adam Tired Counter-Earth

Adam passes out from exhaustion

Adam managed to survive the explosions, but he was left exhausted and wounded. Devastated, Adam returned to the Bowie so he could get Rocket back to the High Evolutionary. As he was on the entrance of the ship, Adam was confronted by Gamora. He tried to fight, but was too exhausted and injured, causing him to merely collapse to the floor.[1]

Attack on Arête Laboratories

Adam Awakes

Adam wakes up aboard the Bowie

"One more step and this weird thing gets it!"
"Don't be rash."
Gamora and Adam Warlock[src]

Adam regained consciousness in the Bowie to find himself strapped to a bed with metal bars confiding his body. He looked up and saw Blurp sitting on him. Using his immense strength, Adam broke free from his restrains so he could confront the Guardians of the Galaxy once again.

Adam Blurp Attack

Adam flies towards Star-Lord and Gamora

Taking Blurp with him, Adam flew into the space battle between Knowhere and Arête Laboratories. He spotted the ship Star-Lord and Gamora were in and crashed himself inside, causing the ship to spiral out of control. Enraged over the death of Ayesha and the failures of his mission, Adam got up and moved in to attack Gamora, but she grabbed Blurp and pulled out her sword, threatening that she would kill Blurp, causing Adam to hesitate as the ship crashed onto High Evolutionary's ship.

Adam in Burning Ship

Adam inside the burning ship

Meanwhile, Star-Lord was able to input a self-destruction code into the ship's mainframe before he tackled Gamora and Blurp out of the ship. It then crashed inside the hangar of Arête Laboratories. Adam was trapped inside and could not escape as the fighter ship exploded with Adam still inside.

Adam Final Battle

A tired Adam attempts to use his powers

Arête Laboratories was starting to take heavy damage from both the inside and out after being inflicted with catastrophic damage from Knowhere's giant cannon. While the Guardians were taking the prisoners of the High Evolutionary to safety, Adam was able to survive the explosion and came out to confront Groot, who was escorting the Star Children in the hallways to safety. Seeing a Guardian in his sights, he screamed with his ray laser powers charged up and ready to shoot. However, before he could do so, Adam passed out once again after surviving another explosion that exhausted him. Groot hesitated at first, but then he decided to take Adam with him since he could not leave Adam to die in the exploding ship.[1]

Second Chance

Shocked Adam

Adam questions Groot saving his life

"Why are you doing this? I tried to kill you."
"I am Groot.[3]"
―Adam Warlock and Groot[src]

Groot carried the unconscious Adam in his arms to escort the prisoners across the ship into the opening of Knowhere. Once the shield was disabled, the Knowhere inhabitants took in the Star Children while Groot carried Adam over to safety just before he gained consciousness. An awake Adam was surprised by Groot's actions and asked why he saved him, despite the fact that he tried to kill him and the Guardians of the Galaxy before. In response, Groot answered that everyone deserved to have a second chance.

The Creation of Adam

Adam saves Star-Lord from dying

Adam hug

Adam awkwardly joins the group hug

He flew in and grabbed Star-Lord before starting to rocket himself back to Knowhere. Star-Lord recovered and the Guardians, including Blurp, made a group hug around him for being alive. Adam was hesitant at first, but he decided to also join in on the hug. Later, Adam sat down and rested up with a blanket being offered to him, which he accepted and wrapped himself to keep warm.

Adam In Knowhere

Adam watches everyone dance together

As he recovered, he heard the song, "Dog Days Are Over", being played on the speakers, which he happily listened to while tears formed in his eyes. After the celebration, Kraglin Obfonteri then walked over, handed Adam a cup of water and talked with him. As the two had a conversation, Obfonteri remarked that Adam was not a good name and suggested that he think of a better hero name. However, Adam told him that he liked it.[4][1]

The New Guardians

"Adrian Belew. Both solo and his work with King Crimson. What about you, Captain?"
"This one's kind of special."
―Adam Warlock and Rocket Raccoon[src]

The Guardians of the Galaxy decided to break up as some of the members wanted to explore new opportunities. With a void to fill, Adam took up his decision to join the Guardians under the leadership of Rocket Raccoon. Sometime later, Adam and the other Guardians were hired to protect some Krylorian townspeople from a stampede of creatures on Krylor.

New Guardians of the Galaxy

While waiting for the stampede, they discussed their favorite musical acts, with Adam remarking that he enjoyed Adrian Belew, both as soloist and his collaborations with King Crimson. Rocket began playing his favorite song "Come and Get Your Love", which Adam and the other Guardians enjoyed until the stampede arrived. Adam and the other Guardians then began to charge into battle, on Rocket's word.[1]

Personality

Powers

  • Sovereign Physiology: Designed to be the best of his race, Adam Warlock possesses superhuman attributes and abilities that no other Sovereign has. Given that he was released from his cocoon pre-maturely to capture Rocket Raccoon, it can be assumed that his full potential has yet to be reached.
    • Superhuman Strength:
GOTG Volume 3 Super Bowl Trailer (25)

Adam Warlock wrestles Drax the Destroyer

Adam Warlock possesses tremendous physical strength unmatched by many of his enemies.
    • Superhuman Durability: Adam Warlock's body possesses tremendous amounts of physical resilience.
    • Superhuman Speed: Warlock can move and react at superhuman speeds. However he can be caught off guard, as shown when he was overpowered by Groot and Drax, and later being stabbed by Nebula.
    • Superhuman Agility: Adam's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Adam's muscles produce considerably fewer fatigue cells during physical activities than a human's muscles. He can exert himself for long periods without getting tired.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Adam's reflexes are enhanced to superhuman levels and are superior to those of the finest human athlete. But he can still be caught off guard as shown in his fight against Groot, Drax and later he was stabbed by Nebula's sword.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his advanced durability, Adam Warlock can still be injured, as shown when he was stabbed by Nebula's sword, and suffered injuries from the Guardians, and a massive explosion caused by the self-destruction of the Bowie while trying to capture Rocket. However, he is able to heal quickly enough to save Star-Lord later, albeit he required a Med-Pak to heal from the stab wound by Nebula.
    • Longevity: To be added
    • Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Adam can manipulate cosmic energy to use for different purposes.
      • Energy Blast: He is able to shoot golden energy blasts from his hands, powerful enough to fatally injure Rocket Raccoon, as well as turn a Ravager into a skeleton.
      • Flight: Adam can manipulate energy in order to fly at high speeds.
      • Heat Generation: Adam has the ability to generate heat from his body, such as when he killed the War Pig.
    • Self-Sustenance: Adam Warlock is capable of surviving in space without any space suit. Therefore, he was able to save Peter Quill who nearly froze to death in space after the Guardians of the Galaxy defeated High Evolutionary.
