Captain Emil Blonsky was a soldier recruited by the United States Army to hunt Bruce Banner. His hunt led to him learning that Banner was able to transform into a monster known as Hulk and Blonsky being put through the same treatments Banner received. The serum increased Blonsky's strength and abilities, and he started craving more. He threatened Samuel Sterns into turning him into Abomination, who started terrorizing New York City until Hulk defeated him.

Biography[]

Ambush in Porto Verde[]

"Something attacked us in there, General. It was not a gorilla. If Banner knows what it was, I am going to find him, I'm gonna put my foot on his throat, and then I'm gonna ask him."
―Emil Blonsky to Thaddeus Ross[src]

Emil Blonsky was recruited by the United States Army as part of their effort to find Bruce Banner, who had gone on the run. Blonsky found Banner in Porto Verde and chased after him, reporting on his findings to Thaddeus Ross as he chased Banner. Banner hid in a factory, which Blonsky ordered a helicopter to blow up. However, Banner transformed into the Hulk, who fought through all of his troops. Blonsky donned an armor and challenged the Hulk, who ultimately defeated him in the fight. Blonsky was left lying on the ground when Ross confronted him. Blonsky announced his intention to ask Banner what the monster was, but Ross explained that it was Banner. Ross told Blonsky that Banner worked for the military's bio-tech division and could transform into the monster. Blonsky asked why the military did not take the data to another scientist, but Ross explained that Banner's body is property of the military since the Hulk was the result of their experiment.[1]

Given a Serum[]

"And don't we need Banner alive to tell us what he did?"
"An autopsy will tell us what we need to know."
―Emil Blonsky and Glenn Talbot[src]

Blonsky was taken to Thaddeus Ross, who had a doctor administer a low dose of the serum which Bruce Banner was working on. Blonsky agreed to stop at the first sign of any side effects.

Blonsky went to New York City and met with Major Glenn Talbot, who discussed his concern for Ross' insistence that Bruce Banner be captured alive. Blonsky defended the General, saying that his strategy worked and that they needed Banner alive so that he could reveal what he did. However, Talbot claimed that an autopsy would reveal what they needed to know. The Army attacked the Hulk, and Talbot prepared to send Blonsky in after a missile strike on the Hulk. Blonsky voiced concerns about sending missiles a populated area, but Talbot insisted. Hulk avoided the missiles and fought Blonsky, who lost, earning Blonsky a sarcastic congratulation from Talbot.[1]

Battle at Culver University[]

"I almost had him. All I need is a little more."
―Emil Blonsky[src]

Thaddeus Ross sent Blonsky to follow Bruce Banner as he left New York City and went to Culver University. Blonsky confirmed for Ross that he had a visual of Banner talking to Betty Ross, so Thaddeus told him not to engage until Banner was clear of Betty. However, Banner saw Blonsky and ran, so the army surrounded Banner, who turned into the Hulk. Hulk destroyed the Army's deployment points around campus, and Blonsky took the opportunity to attack him when Hulk went to check on Betty. Blonsky stood up to the Hulk, running to various tanks and firing at him as well as in hand-to-hand combat, but Hulk managed to defeat Blonsky, incapacitating him. However, Blonsky survived, and Thaddeus ordered an evacuation for him.

Blosnky recovered quickly, surprising the lab technician, who went back to work. Blonsky told Thaddeus Ross that the serum he was given was a miracle, asking for more of it. Ross agreed, saying that he authorized Blonsky for the full treatment.[1]

Becoming Abomination[]

Blonsky went with the United States Army to Empire State University, where he watched Bruce Banner, Betty Ross, and Samuel Sterns prepare Banner to be cured of the Hulk. The soldier with Blonsky could not get a clear shot, so Blonsky asked to be allowed to go in. Thaddeus Ross refused, but Blonsky went against his orders and entered the university. Blonsky broke into the lab, getting past the Army's guards. He held Sterns at gunpoint and demanded that Sterns allow him to turn into a monster like the Hulk. Sterns expressed hesitancy since he did not know what was already inside Blonsky, but Blonsky threatened Sterns further, so Sterns agreed.

The experiment turned Blonsky into the monstrous Abomination, who started rampaging in the street. He was met and challenged by the Hulk, and the two started to fight. Abomination picked up a taxi and threw it at the military's helicopter, sending it crashing onto the roof of a building. Hulk put out the fire, but Abomination attacked him again on the roof. Hulk fought Abomination and the two started choking each other, but Hulk overpowered Abomination and threw him on his back. Hulk started punching Abomination repeatedly, defeating him.[1]

Personality[]

Blonsky was a dedicated soldier who was willing to do whatever it took for the military's cause. He was willing to blow up a building in order to capture Bruce Banner and was talked into going along with Glenn Talbot's plan to send a missile into a populated area, although he was initially hesitant. Furthermore, he was determined to grow his own power, and was willing to be injected with an experimental serum in order to do so.

However, as Blonsky received increased doses of the serum, he started to lose his mental faculties and became obsessed with gaining as much power as the Hulk. His hesitancy around civilians disappeared as well, as he walked in a threatened to shoot Sterns if the scientist did not turn him into the Abomination. As Abomination, his recklessness and anger transformed into destruction for the city.
