"See, I've been reading e-mails all night. NYPD, ATF, Customs, they've all been warned off."

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is a federal law enforcement organization within the United States Department of Justice. Its responsibilities include the investigation and prevention of federal offenses involving the unlawful use, manufacture and possession of firearms and explosives; acts of arson and bombings; and illegal trafficking and tax evasion of alcohol and tobacco products.

History

Arranging a tactical operation at the Red Hook Pier in order to arrest members of the Greek Mob, United States Department of Homeland Security contacted with ATF, New York City Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They warned them about an operation and asked to not interfere.[1]

The ATF Field Office in New York City became one of the targets for Lewis Wilson who adopted an extremist opposition approach against the United States Government. Wilson managed to quietly and strategically plant explosive charges at the building, waiting until the ATF members were celebrating the birthday of one of their colleagues, when Wilson then detonated the bombs.[2]
