- "We appreciate your concern, Stephen, but it's not the Scarlet Witch that we fear. From our experience, the greatest danger to the Multiverse, it turns out, is Doctor Strange."
- ―Mister Fantastic to Doctor Strange[src]
This is a timeline of events that occurred in 2024 on Earth-838, an alternate universe where Doctor Strange assembled the Illuminati.
2024[]
November[]
21st[]
- In Westview, New Jersey, Wanda Maximoff makes chocolate in her kitchen. Her sons, Billy and Tommy run into the kitchen, asking what their mother is doing. The boys stick their fingers into the chocolate and taste it. Wanda tells her sons that she told them not to do that and playfully tells them to go wash their hands.[1][2]
- That night, she readies her sons for bed. Tommy says that he is too old to be tucked in, so Wanda tucks Billy in and tells her boys that family is forever. Tommy changes his mind and asks to be tucked in as well. Maximoff kisses Billy on the forehead and says that she loves him before tucking Tommy in.[1][2]
22nd[]
- Doctor Strange and America Chavez, after being sent through various universes, arrive in New York City. Chavez is surprised that Strange saved her life as Strange looks around, recognizing New York City. Strange takes off the Cloak of Levitation, finding it to have a hole in it. Strange demands that Chavez open a portal back, but she explains that she does not know how to. Strange demands that she must know, since even he could control it, scaring Chavez. Strange calms himself down and suggests looking for the native Chavez, but Chavez informs him that there are no other versions of her.[1][2]
- Strange says that it is okay, but that they have no way of stopping Wanda Maximoff in his universe. Chavez suggests the Book of Vishanti, saying that the first Strange she met thought it could stop Maximoff. This gives Strange the idea to search for the native version of him. The two begin walking to the New York Sanctum.[1][2]
- While attempting to cross the street, Strange nearly gets hit by a car and realizes that he is in a universe where a red stoplight means go. Chavez responds that the first rule of multiversal travel is that one knows nothing about the universe they are in. As they cross the street, Strange asks what the second rule is, but sees that she is gone.[1][2]
- Chavez returns with pizza balls from Pizza Poppa's cart, saying that rule two is to find food. Chavez says that the food was free, but Pizza Poppa gets upset with her, saying that he always gets paid. Strange tries to deescalate the situation, but is interrupted by Pizza Poppa suggesting that Strange's cloak was stolen from the Doctor Strange museum. Pizza Poppa attempts to spray mustard on Strange. Strange then puts a curse on him, forcing him to punch himself in the face repeatedly.[1] He continues to do this, trapping his face in the grill for a short moment. He then stops suddenly and thinks it is over before punching himself again.[3][2]
- As the pair walk through the city, Strange asks Chavez about the universes she has been to. She tells him that she has been to seventy-three, surprising him. The pair come across the Memory Lane, and Strange accidentally steps onto the podium, causing a memory of him and Christine Palmer on a date to play.[1][2]
- Strange, upset by this, goes to leave. Chavez stands on the podium, and the memory displayed is that of the first time she used her powers, causing both of her moms to be lost in the Multiverse. Chavez tells Strange what is happening and begins crying.[1][2]
- Chavez walks away while Strange tries to comfort her. Chavez says that she killed them, but Strange comments that if her mothers are like her, they survived and will reunite. Chavez asks if his relationship with Palmer worked out, and Strange replies that he missed his chance with her. Chavez confirms that the Strange she met before him messed up their relationship as well.[1][2]
- The pair arrive at the New York Sanctum, which features a memorial for this universe's Doctor Strange, and a plaque that states Strange died battling Thanos. The front door of the Sanctum suddenly opens, revealing Karl Mordo, much to Strange's dismay. Mordo, delighted to see Strange, invites the two inside and offers them tea, surprising Strange.[1][2]
- Strange tells Mordo what he knows about Scarlet Witch and her mission. Mordo explains the danger that Maximoff could pose due to dreamwalking, Mordo goes on to say that dreamwalking can cause irreparable damage to the universes involved. Strange asks about the Book of Vishanti, but before he can finish, he and Chavez pass out, due to Mordo's tea.[1][2]
- In Westview, Wanda Maximoff tells her two sons, Billy and Tommy to get ready for bed. The boys ask for more ice cream, and start arguing while Wanda walks into the kitchen. Wanda senses something, but continues into the kitchen as lights in flicker. Wanda walks forward seeing a picture's head turn to look at her, causing her to drop her dishes.[1][2]
- Wanda struggles to move as she sees Wanda Maximoff from Earth-616 in the window's reflection, and she takes control of her body. Wanda hears Billy call for her, asking if he can show her something. Billy and Tommy sing and ask for more ice cream, making Wanda emotional.[1][2]
- The native Maximoff suddenly regains control, falling to the ground. Billy and Tommy run over to see if she is okay. Wanda gets up, and hugs her sons while catching her breath.[1][2]
- Palmer fixes the Cloak of Levitation.[1][2]
- Strange wakes up, finding himself and Chavez being studied and tested on inside a laboratory. Strange attempts to use his magic, but is prevented by the Sands of Nisanti that lace his handcuffs. Strange yells to the lead scientist, asking where he is and what was going on. The scientist turns around, revealing herself to be Christine Palmer. Palmer greets Strange, and explains that she is studying the trio due to them being from a different universe.[1][2]
- Palmer tells Strange that they are being tested since they are from another universe. She explains that she has dubbed this universe "838" and Strange's universe "616". Palmer remarks that Strange's hand injuries are similar yet different to her own Strange's. Strange asks what Palmer and her Strange were to each other, and Palmer replies that they never quite figured it out.[1][2]
- Strange says that people are in danger, and begins to acknowledge that she does not know him. Palmer cuts him off and says that she does not want to, since their relationship in his universe does not make him less dangerous. Strange explains that someone from his universe is coming, but is cut off when Mordo arrives with a group of Ultron Sentries, telling Strange that the Illuminati would now see him, confusing Strange. The Ultron Sentries handcuff Strange and escort him to the Illuminati's chamber as he tells Palmer not to let anyone near Chavez.[1][2]
- Strange is escorted to the Illuminati's meeting room, where Mordo announces him. Strange gets surprised at hearing Mordo's first name, when a shield bounces in front of him and is returned to its owner, whom Mordo introduces as Captain Carter, the first Avenger. Mordo then introduces each member, Blackagar Boltagon, Maria Rambeau and Reed Richards. Strange, ignoring the importance of the situation, pokes fun at each of them.[1][2]
- Rambeau asks if Strange sees their situation as a joke, prompting Strange to make fun of Boltagon's outfit. Boltagon signs for Strange to be quiet, as the group discuss with Strange that they believe him to be the biggest threat to the multiverse, possibly causing an Incursion. Carter explains that the native Strange founded the Illuminati to make hard choices, such as what they should do with Strange and Chavez.[1][2]
- Rambeau gives Strange the chance to say anything serious before they vote, so he suggests that the Scarlet Witch is a bigger threat. Rambeau says that they can handle her, but Strange insists that he needs the Book of Vishanti. Richards explains that Strange is the biggest threat to the multiverse, confusing Strange. Professor X then arrives, declaring that they should show Strange the truth.[1][2]
- While Maximoff lays asleep on the couch with her sons, she is possessed by the version of Maximoff from Strange's universe. She leaves the house and flies toward the Illuminati Headquarters.[1][2]
- Xavier and the Illuminati recount their Strange attempted to use the Darkhold to stop Thanos, and then continued using it and caused an incursion. Xavier explains that they defeated Thanos using the Book of Vishanti, but another threat remained. Xavier uses his telepathic abilities to show Strange the execution of the native Strange.[1][2]
- Strange looks to Boltagon and asks if they told Palmer what happened, and Richards confirms that they did. Strange asks about the statue they built, but Carter simply says that the world needs heroes, suggesting that every version of Strange is capable of doing what their Strange did. The building's alarm systems start blaring. Captain Carter asks for video feeds, seeing that the dreamwalking Scarlet Witch was battling Ultron Sentries inside the Illuminati Headquarters. Captain Carter asks Mordo and Xavier to watch Strange while the rest of them go to check out the situation. Xavier tells Strange to save Chavez and get to the Book of Vishanti should he escape, revealing that there is a waypoint to the book. Mordo says that Strange cannot be trusted, but Xavier insists that he can.[1][2]
- Battle at the Illuminati Headquarters:
- Maximoff arrives at the Illuminati Headquarters and fights the Ultron Sentries that attempt to guard the facility. Palmer, hearing the alarms, orders an evacuation attempts to free Chavez from the cell. Chavez watches as Maximoff destroys the last of the Sentries and makes her way to Chavez's cell. Maximoff uses her magic to prevent the cell's control panel from working.[1][2]
- Carter, Boltagon, Rambeau, and Richards land in front of Maximoff. Richards urges her to do the right thing and disengage from the body of her counterpart. He empathizes with her pain, as he has children of his own, only to be asked by Maximoff whether their mother is still alive. Richards confirms that she is, leading Maximoff to threaten him. Richards warns Maximoff that Black Bolt can destroy her with one whisper from his mouth, but Maximoff uses her power to seal Boltagon's mouth. Boltagon, panicking, screams, which reverberates within his skull and kills him.[1][2]
- Horrified by Boltagon's death, Richards stretches out his arm, attempting to reach Maximoff, but is swiftly lifted into the air and ripped into strings, resulting in his death. Rambeau begins to attack Maximoff with her energy blasts, and Carter throws her shield towards Maximoff, who blocks the attacks, casts Carter to the side, and throws a statue at Rambeau.[1][2]
- Strange asks Mordo to take him to the Book of Vishanti, but Mordo rejects him, stating that his vote will conclude the proceedings once the others return.[1][2]
- Carter, having retrieved her shield, bashes it against Maximoff, knocking her off guard. Maximoff wonders if Carter has had enough, to which Carter responds that she can fight all day. She continues to fight Maximoff and throws her shield again, but Maximoff catches it and sends it back, slicing Carter in half. Rambeau reemerges and attacks Maximoff. As the two standoff with energy blasts, Rambeau orders Maximoff to get out of this universe. Rambeau and Maximoff engage in a power struggle, with both of them spinning around each other. The two are blasted backwards, and Maximoff crushes Rambeau with a statue.[1][2]
- Strange realizes the rest of the Illuminati is not coming back and, recalling the hatred his Mordo holds towards him. He suggests that Mordo has similar feelings, causing Mordo to decide to kill Strange. Mordo lunges at Strange, swinging a magic sword, Strange dodges this attack, and uses Mordo's attacks to weaken his handcuffs. Strange briefly overpowers Mordo, before Mordo uses the Vaulting Boots of Valtorr to knock Strange down.[1][2]
- Mordo readies his sword to execute Strange, but is stopped when Strange places one of his cuffs on Mordo's wrist, disabling his magic. The two then engage in close combat, during which they are forced into a trench. They resume fighting, and Strange escapes, using Mordo to jump out of the trench. As Strange leaves, Mordo yells that he now understands his Mordo's hatred of Strange.[1][2]
- As Maximoff approaches, Palmer continues her attempts to free Chavez, to no avail. Chavez punches the glass, and due to the stress of the situation, smashes it with her powers, surprising both Palmer and Chavez. Xavier arrives, demanding that Maximoff stop. Attempting to stop her, he uses his telekinesis to enter Maximoff's mind.[1][2]
- Inside Maximoff's mind, Xavier sees the native Maximoff trapped under rubble. Xavier tries to save her, until Earth-616 Maximoff approaches him from behind and wrings his neck, killing him.[1][2]
- Palmer and Chavez run, looking for a way to escape, and reunite with Strange. The Cloak of Levitation, now repaired, flies to Strange,w who tells Palmer that 838 Strange had a doorway to the Book of Vishanti, and Palmer asks why she should trust Strange. Chavez assures her that this Strange is different, and Palmer reluctantly agrees to help. The group begin their escape, with Palmer leading them into the lower levels of the building, but are perused by Maximoff.[1][2]
- The group reach a series of tunnels, and Palmer locks the gate behind them, telling Strange that the tunnels lead under the river. The trio hurry as Maximoff tears the gate open. Palmer flips a lever, which begins closing the gates as the trio run trough them. Maximoff rips through each gate as they close, gaining on Palmer, Strange, and Chavez. The trio make a left turn as Palmer closes the final gate, locking Maximoff behind it. The three stop to catch their breath.[1][2]
- As the three stare at the gate, Maximoff suddenly appears on their side, causing Chavez to shriek in terror. Maximoff limps towards Strange, as he tells 838 Wanda to hold her breath before casting a spell to destroy the ceiling, bringing the river's water down onto Maximoff.[1][2]
- Palmer, Strange and Chavez run to the final door. Palmer tells the group that only the native Strange had ever opened the door. Strange attempts to use the Eye of Agamotto to open it, but to no avail. As Strange struggles to think of a way to open the door, Palmer points out that Strange's watch matches the lock. Strange uses it to open the door, leading to the Gap Junction. The three enter the Gap Junction.[1][2]
- Maximoff reaches the door and enters the Gap Junction.[1][2]
- The native Maximoff, having resumed control of her body, returns through the door and rushes to her children.[1][2]
23rd[]
- America Chavez opens a portal from Earth-616 to Earth-838, sending Wanda Maximoff to her Earth-838 self's household.[1][2]
- Wanda holds Chavez by the throat as Billy and Tommy Maximoff, terrified, begin screaming for their mother, the native Wanda. 616 Wanda questions Chavez what she has done.[1][2]
- The native Wanda comes down the stairs and comforts her children, as the alternate Wanda insists that she is their mother, approaching the family. The native Wanda prepares to defend themselves, but is attacked by the alternate Wanda.[1][2]
- The children throw toys and other items at the alternate Wanda, yelling for her to get away from their mother. The alternate Wanda yells for them to stop, causing them to hide behind a banister. The alternate Wanda approaches and greets them with affection, but they beg her not to hurt them. Wanda cries as she says she would never hurt anyone, but the children look towards the native Wanda, making the alternate Wanda realize what she had become. The native Wanda realizes her mistakes steps away from the children, who run towards their real mother.[1][2]
- Heartbroken, the alternate Wanda kneels on the floor. The native Wanda approaches her, assuring her that the children will be loved. Chavez then closes the portal, sending the alternate Wanda back to her home universe.[1][2]

Furthermore, an x-ray taken of the version of Strange that is the movie's protagonist shows the date to be "02/12/2021," again suggesting that the events of the film in the Illuminati Assembled universe occur in 2021. However, Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline places those events in "Fall 2024." Therefore, the date on the watch can be taken with the weekday mistaken, placing the events on November 22-23, 2024. Early in the movie, Maximoff is shown having a dream of her Illuminati Assembled self interacting with her children, which can be taken to occur the day prior, like the dream does in Maximoff's universe.
