  • Ultron uploads his consciousnesses into a new, high tech, organic, body made out of vibranium. This gives him the infinite powers of the stone. He begins to destroy the planet.[1][2]
  • Battle of Oslo:
    • Thor and Captain America dead

      Ultron murders the Avengers

Iron Man radios Black Widow and Hawkeye, telling them that the rest of the Avengers are holding off Ultron from getting the nuclear codes. Romanoff tells Barton that they have to shut down the satellites so that he cannot launch the nukes.[1][2]
    • Ultron breaks Captain America's Shield, incapacitates Thor, and almost kills Hulk. A struggling Iron Man pleads for Ultron not to send the nukes because he was built for peace. Ultron replies saying that his actions are evolution, and that only primitive men cannot see the difference. He expels an orb of energy that kills the Avengers and fries the NEXUS Internet Hub servers. Every single nuke in the world is sent to various locations across the globe. Thaddeus Ross watches in horror as the military calls for a Code Red.[1][2]
  • Romanoff and Barton watch from the Quinjet as countless nukes rain past them. Romanoff realizes that they are too late, and Barton thinks of his wife, Laura.[1][2]
  • The dust settles, and Ultron stands on the empty Earth, relieved that there is finally peace. Suddenly, a portal opens behind him. Thanos steps out of the portal.[1][2]
  • Attack on Avengers Tower:
    • Thanos killed by Ultron

Ultron kills Thanos, claiming the Infinity Stones

Ultron is interested in Thanos' appearances and splits him in half with his Mind Stone beam. Ultron sees the Infinity Gauntlet slip off of Thanos' corpse and shoots his laser beam at it. He cuts the gauntlet so that the five Infinity Stones are easily accessible. He lifts the Infinity Stones in the air and transforms his armor into a more durable, battle armor. He then places the stones in formation on his chest. With his newfound powers, he realizes that there are other planets that need him. Ultron uses the Reality Stone to create an entire army of Ultron Sentries for himself, create a Double-Headed Spear, and also form a cape. He then creates a spherical space ship and teleports away.[1][2]
  • Destruction of Asgard: Ultron arrives on Asgard and shoots a laser from his spear, obliterating the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf and the whole planet.[1][2]

  • Destruction of Xandar:
    • Xandar destroyed by Ultron

      Ultron destroys Xandar

The Nova Corps set up their defenses as countless Ultron Sentries rain down on them and civilians flee. Ultron prepares to shoot his laser beam at the surface, but he is pummeled by Captain Marvel, who throws him into the ground, causing an outburst of energy. Ultron confusingly looks at her as she lunges at him and pushes him all the way into the core of the planet. Captain Marvel punches him repeatedly, and Ultron remarks that she has spirit as his armor starts to crack. Captain Marvel says that Ultron cannot win, but Ultron frees himself from her and says that he already has before he expels vast amounts of energy that destroys Xandar and every planet surrounding it.[1][3]

  • Search for Arnim Zola:
    • Apocalyptic Widow destroys sentries

Black Widow drives through Ultron Sentries

The Watcher watches as Natasha Romanoff flees from multiple Ultron Sentries on her motorcycle. She warns Clint Barton of the Sentries. Barton walks out of a cave and shoots multiple arrows at the sentries, hitting all of them. More sentries begin to chase Romanoff as she drives away from them. Hawkeye manages to shoot them down. Romanoff turns the corner, only to see the sentries coming directly at her. She quickly drifts around the corner into an alley where she sets off some explosives out of the back of her bike.[1][4]
    • A sentry in the air gets shot and quickly turns his head to find Barton, who disguises with an invisibility cloak. A group of sentries land as Barton sneaks up behind one and stabs it in the head with an arrow. He then attacks all of the remaining sentries, defeating them. He looks up to find more on their way.[1][4]
    • Romanoff reminds him that they have thirty seconds until the sentries reconnect to the hive mind. She is suddenly knocked off her motorcycle, but quickly attacks the perpetrators with her batons. She contacts Barton and asks after him, but his metal arm gets shot off by a sentry. A sentry lunges at him, knocking them both off the ledge as Romanoff watches. Two sentries surround Barton, but are distracted by Romanoff's motorcycle, which jumps through the air and lands on them.[1][4]
  • Romanoff gives Barton a hand to get up, which Barton realizes is his metal arm. Barton asks where they are, and Romanoff replies that they are in Russia. Barton asks if she is certain the secret to defeating Ultron is there, Romanoff insists that Russia has plenty of secrets.[1][4]
  • Ultron sens and hears The Watcher1

Ultron becomes aware of The Watcher

Ultron stands on a small piece of remaining land, floating in space. He peacefully says that his mission is complete while The Watcher watches, narrating Ultron's feelings from the Nexus of All Realities. Ultron hears the Watcher, and turns around, saying out loud that he can see the Watcher. Ultron flies toward where he sees the Watcher and realizes that there are other universes. His access to the Nexus of All Realities is cut off.[1][4]
  • Romanoff and Barton enter the KGB Archive Building. Romanoff welcomes him to the archives as they start navigating. Barton asks if Romanoff has seen Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Romanoff responds that she loves the movie. Barton asks if Russia had ever thought to digitize their data. The Watcher observes as Romanoff explains that paper copies are easier to keep safe and destroy. The two begin looking through boxes, hoping to find something to help.[1][4]
  • After hours of searching, Romanoff finds a box containing a shield which belonged to her adoptive father. She puts it on her back and jokingly asks Barton if it is her color, prompting Barton to ask her not to try and make it fun as he is losing his will to live. The Watcher watches Barton pick up another box right next to the one which the Watcher knows will give them the answer they need. The Watcher considers intervening, but gets distracted as Ultron threatens him.[1][4]
  • The Watcher in KGB Archive Building

Uatu watches as Barton searches the KGB archives

Barton picks up the box containing the code, but puts it down without searching it, declaring their mission to be pointless. The Watcher urges him to get up, despite the fact that nobody can hear him. Romanoff attempts to encourage him to find an artificial intelligence to combat Ultron's code, but Hawkeye says that Ultron has already taken over every program on the planet. However, Romanoff notes that he has taken over every digital program, but that she is looking for something more analog. She looks in the box and grabs the file on Arnim Zola. Romanoff explains that Zola is a man who will help them defeat Ultron.[1][4]

26th[]

  • Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton arrive at the HYDRA Siberian Facility. Romanoff explains to Barton that Arnim Zola was a HYDRA scientist whose brain was uploaded to a series of databanks. Romanoff activates the computer with Zola's brain, when Barton asks whether they should be trusting a morally questionable man such as Zola. Romanoff says that the United States government once mistrusted her similarly, as Romanoff activates the computer.[1][4]
  • ArnimZolaBackup

Arnim Zola greets Romanoff and Barton

Zola's computerized face greets Romanoff and Barton. Romanoff tells Zola that they need help, confusing Zola. Barton and Romanoff tell Zola about Ultron's actions, and Zola guesses that they want him to infiltrate Ultron's code and destroy him. Zola asks why he would help, prompting Barton to hold his water bottle over the computer, threatening to destroy it. Zola agrees to their plan.[1][4]
  • Romanoff calls Avengers Tower, and Ultron answers. She jokingly says that she wants to order a pizza and hangs up, telling Barton that they have two minutes. Barton plugs in a hard drive arrow into Zola's program as Zola uploads himself to the arrow. Romanoff and Barton tell Zola that with Ultron off world, they will plug him into an Ultron Sentry and have him destroy the hive mind from within. At Romanoff's orders, Barton sets the computer on fire.[1][4]
  • Ambush at the HYDRA Siberian Facility:
    • An army of Ultron Sentries arrive, as Barton shoots one with the hard drive arrow. A sentry tries to stop the upload, but gets destroyed by Romanoff throwing Red Guardian's shield. The shield destroys multiple sentries, leading to a fight between the remaining robots, Romanoff, and Barton. Barton and Romanoff bring Zola's sentry into another room, closing the door to buy themselves time.[1][4]
    • Romanoff asks whether the door will hold them back, and Zola says that he has already started to destroy Ultron's code. Romanoff shoots and destroys Zola's sentry's legs as a precaution, upsetting Zola. Zola attempts to connect to the hive mind, as the sentries continue to fight through the door. Zola explains that Ultron's hive mind is out of range, when an Ultron sentry breaks through the door. Romanoff and Barton retreat, bringing Zola.[1][4]
    • Rocket Arrow 1

      Barton battles the Ultron Sentries

The sentries start flying through the base, so Barton begins shooting at them while Romanoff climbs the stairs. Barton starts to get overwhelmed, so Romanoff begins shooting at sentries while Barton flees. Barton shoots a trick arrow that sets off an energy shield, trapping the sentries. As Barton, Romanoff, and Zola try to escape, a sentry's hand breaks through and shoots Barton, causing him to fall into the Sentires below, while Zola shoots at sentries to hold them off.[1][4]
    • Romanoff reluctantly leaves as Hawkeye falls down towards the sentries. He takes an arrow and shoots it at the sentries. The arrow explodes, killing the whole army and himself. Romanoff and Zola barely make it out of the facility before it explodes. Romanoff falls to her knees and mourns, but Zola rushes her, saying that they need to go. She asks why Zola couldn't connect to the hive. Zola concludes that the only possible explanation is that Ultron is not in the observable universe, prompting Romanoff to ask where he is.[1][4]

  • Erik Killmonger and Gamora arrive through one of The Watcher's portals, as part of his plan to stop Ultron. Carter comes flying through and crashes on the ground.[5][4]
  • The remaining Guardians of the Multiverse arrive through the portal. Gamora asks Doctor Strange to hand the Soul Stone over to her, but is interrupted by Natasha Romanoff stealing the stone. The Guardians ready for battle, but Captain Carter tells everyone to stand down, stating that she knows who Romanoff is. Romanoff aims her gun at Carter, telling her that she is the only human left on Earth. Carter tells her that they are all from other universes, and plan to stop the Ultron from Romanoff's universe. Romanoff stands down, choosing to trust Carter.[5][4]
  • Battle for the Multiverse:
    • Ultron arrives through a portal, demanding for his Soul Stone to be returned. Ultron grabs Romanoff, but Thor throws Mjølnir, causing Ultron to drop Romanoff, who is saved by Strange, who casts a protection spell on her. Killmonger runs to grab the stone, trying to keep it from Ultron. Ultron blasts Killmonger, launching the stone onto the ground, T'Challa, Gamora, and Carter race to grab it, but Ultron stops them. Ultron, frustrated, releases a massive burst of energy. However, Strange contains the explosion, eating it, and absorbing its energy. Ultron, caught off guard by Strange, is tackled by T'Challa, who blasts him repeatedly with his Quad Blasters.[5][4]
    • Ultron shrugs the blasts off, launching T'Challa into the air and causing him to land on Gamora and Thor. Romanoff throws Red Guardian's shield at Ultron, while Carter throws her own shield, staggering Ultron. The pair knock Ultron down, and all six team members rush toward the stone, which Ultron goes for as well.[5][4]
    • UltronStopsTime

Ultron uses the Time Stone on the Guardians of the Multiverse

Thor hits Ultron with his hammer, Carter bases Ultron with her shield, and T'Challa kicks Ultron over to Stevens, who uses his Panther Habit's claws to slice at him. Carter and Romanoff continue throwing their shields, before Thor blasts Ultron with lighting, and Strange uses a magic beam to blast Ultron, knocking him into Gamora, who slices at him with her Double-Edged Sword. The six continue to relentlessly attack Ultron, until Ultron uses the Time Stone to stop everyone. With time slowed, Ultron reaches for the Soul Stone, but Strange stops him from getting it and activates his Eye of Agamotto, which houses his own Time Stone. Strange continues time for the other team members.[5][4]
    • Ultron uses his five Infinity Stones to grow to a massive size. Strange counters this by releasing a massive burst from the Mystic beings he had absorbed, forcing Ultron back to his normal size and throwing him to the ground. Gamora gets the stone, and Strange uses magic to hold Ultron down while Thor channels lightning onto him. Carter, Stevens and Romanoff all help in holding Ultron down. Gamora activates the Infinity Crusher, causing a large explosion. Thor asks if they are done, celebrating their easy victory, but T'Challa says that their mission does not feel over. Ultron taunts them, saying that the Infinity Stones are different in each universe, causing Gamora to realize that her universe's Infinity Crusher would not destroy Ultron's universe's Infinity Stones.[5][4]
    • Guardians of the Multiverse

The Guardians of the Multiverse assemble

Ultron, using all six stones, fires a massive laser at the Guardians, who are protected from it by Strange's protection spell. Ultron realizes that stopping Strange is the key to his victory and resumes attacking. Strange continues to hold off Ultron's attack, as Carter and Romanoff are thrown backward. Romanoff sees the USB arrow in which Arnim Zola is housed. While Strange and Gamora struggle against Ultron's attack, Romanoff tells Carter that she has a plan, and Carter agrees to help.[5][4]
    • T'Challa is thrown back by Ultron's laser and pinned against a wall.[5][4]
    • Carter and Romanoff rush toward Ultron, then begin to ascend buildings while Ultron fires his beam, using all of his Infinity Stones.[5][4]
    • T'Challa is pushed further against the wall while Ultron continues to fire. Strange struggles.[5][4]
    • Carter and Romanoff continue to ascend buildings while Ultron fires his beam, using all of his Infinity Stones.[5][4]
    • Strange struggles against Ultron, and closes his eyes in frustration.[5][4]
    • Romanoff watches and jumps off her building on her motorcycle while Carter jumps onto Ultron's back. Romanoff takes Clint Barton's bow and fires the USB arrow at Ultron. The arrow and Carter both fly toward Ultron who attacks a weakening Strange. T'Challa's protection spell cracks, as he starts to feel the attack. Carter pulls Ultron's helmet off, causing the arrow to hit his eye. Carter is thrown off Ultron's back as the attack is stopped, relieving the Guardians. Carter and Romanoff land safely as Ultron takes the arrow out of his eye.[5][4]
    • FightForTheStones

      Killmonger battles Zola

Zola gets excited at his new body, upsetting Ultron, who says that the body is occupied. Ultron asks who Zola is and what his objective is. Zola tells Ultron that now that HYDRA is gone, his new objective is stopping Ultron, killing the code and causing his body to fall to the ground.[5][4]
    • Thor recovers and asks what happened, and Romanoff explains that she gave Ultron a virus. Killmonger stands over Ultron's body, fusing his Infinity Armor with his Panther Habit, gaining control over the Stones. The Guardians ready themselves to battle their former teammate, while T'Challa attempts to talk him down. Killmonger laments that the Watcher owes them the Stones' power to fix their universes. Killmonger attempts to convince the Guardians that he is right by mentioning problems they face in their own universes. T'Challa demands that he turn over the Stones, but Killmonger refuses and starts attacking the Guardians.[5][4]
    • Zola, now inhabiting Ultron's body, tells Killmonger that the armor belongs to him, shocking Carter. Romanoff explains that HYDRA never died, but simply evolved. Zola and Killmonger begin fighting for control over the stones as they float between the two. Strange realizes that the Guardians were not meant to win, but rather separate the Infinity Stones from Ultron's armor. Strange creates a pocket dimension, with help from The Watcher, trapping Zola and Killmonger in an eternal battle for the stones.[5][4]
  • Strange Supreme's Pocket Dimension

Doctor Strange traps Killmonger and Zola

Carter, Gamora, Romanoff, Thor, and T'Challa look at each other, realizing they have won. Romanoff looks at Barton's bow and then smiles at Carter. The Watcher opens a portal, bringing the Guardians through it, leaving the universe completely devoid of life.[5][4]

  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 2.8 In What If... Ultron Won?, it is shown that Ultron's victory was the result of similar events as those shown in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It can therefore be taken that the events leading up to his victory occurred on the same dates in this universe as in the main MCU universe.
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 In What If... Ultron Won?, Ultron is shown destroying multiple planets, starting with Asgard on May 5, 2015 (see other references). Ultron is then shown to have successfully wiped out life on all planets on May 24, 2018. The destructions shown can therefore be distributed between Ultron starting and ending his mission, resulting in destructions on December 14, 2015, July 24, 2016, March 4, 2017, and October 13, 2017.

Ultron Won?, it is shown that events in 2015 led to Ultron's victory. Following a time jump during which Ultron eliminates all life in the universe, Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff are shown to have aged slightly, and several comments are made about them having been fighting Ultron for a long time. It can therefore be approximated that the events occurred approximately three years after Ultron's victory, in approximately May 2018. Romanoff is then shown returning to Moscow following the episode's climax in What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?, so the events of that episode can be taken to be three days later, the approximate amount of time it would take Romanoff to return.
