Ego's Ship approaches New York City
- A NYPD squad, including Officer Daniels, arrive ready and armed. However, they are blinded by a light emitting from the ship. Daniels is surprised to see the light is a Peter Quill, a Celestial-hybrid child. Quill uses his telekinesis to lift the police cars up to the sky and blow them up.[2]
- Quill rampages through the city until he is left alone, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.[2]
- Carter and Howard Stark watch Quill on a screen at Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.. Stark compares Quill to his difficulties with his own son before Carter suggests putting together a team. Stark is hesitant because they are in the middle of a Cold War. However, he is soon convinced to start recruiting.[2]
- Hank Pym serves his daughter cereal in their house. However, van Dyne is not very happy as there are no vegetables accompanying her breakfast. Pym remarks that the potato chips are the vegetables, prompting van Dyne to get up and leave, both disappointed.[2]
Hank Pym answers the phone
- Stark tells Pym that he does not have to talk, but just turn on the television. Pym grows confused until van Dyne tells Pym to look. Pym turns around and sees what is happening in New York. He tells Stark to send a plane. Within seconds, a plane arrives, shaking the house. Pym asks van Dyne if she wants to come with him to work.[2]
- Arriving at the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility, van Dyne grows excited to see where Pam used to work. Pym corrects her, saying it is where he used to work. Pym is then greeted by Bill Foster earning him a groan as he does not like his old colleague. Foster remarks that there must be nobody to babysit van Dyne. Pym then gets tense, saying Foster knows very well that there is no one to leave her with since Janet van Dyne died. Carter interrupts them, saying to save the fighting for later. Van Dyne then perks up as King T'Chaka of Wakanda approaches in his Panther Habit and Carter explains that with the aliens, he has broken his neutrality and joined the fight.[2]
Winter Soldier arrives
- While walking to the hangar, Carter explains the mission and that Quill is at Coney Island. Foster states his worry that they would not be able to get to New York in time. They then approach Wendy Lawson, who overhears their conversation and says that in her Tesseract-powered ship they could. Carter brings up how Lawson is a United States Air Force officer, leading Pym to say her uniform does not look like Air Force. Lawson tells him it is because she is from the Kree Starforce. She then tells everyone she would explain on the way. The group board the plane as Pam recounts its members before takeoff.[2]
- Skirmish at Coney Island:
Goliath surveys the area
- Quill is chased by ants into a mirror maze, where Black Panther sets off lasers to trap Quill. However, seeing his decapitated stuffed animal fall to the ground angers Quill, leading him to activate his Celestial powers, causing the building to explode and send Black Panther flying back towards the ferris wheel.[2]
- Goliath takes a water tank and traps Quill inside, only for the child to blow that up too and send energy blasts towards Goliath, who shrinks back down asking for help. Winter Soldier then flies in and shines a blinding lights at Quill, causing the child to retaliate by shooting energy spheres back, missing Winter Soldier's ship, but hitting Ego's ship with Mar-Vell still inside.[2]
Peter Quill is trapped
- As they try to leave, Quill uses his telekinesis to stop the Asis. As they panic, thunder emerges. Thor then arrives with a lightning strike which knocks Quill to the ground. Thor lands and Quill mistakes him for a member of Van Halen before passing out, confusing Thor.[2]
13th[]
- Back at the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility, Peter Quill is locked away as Thor explains that Quill rampaged through the Nine Realms, destroying many places with Earth being the only planet left. He explains that Ego uses his celestial seeds for his expansion. Howard Stark suggests destroying the seed, but Thor says it is impenetrable without a Celestial to open it. Hank Pym remarks that they are lucky since they have one in custody.[2]
Hope van Dyne meets Peter Quill
- Van Dyne remarks that Quill does not seem so bad given where he is from, not realizing that he is from Missouri. Quill says that he was born in the United States of America and just wants to get home. Upon hearing this, van Dyne uses Pym Particles to shrink down Quill's prison so she could set him free. This sets off the alarms, causing the team to investigate.[2]
- Before leaving, van Dyne gives Quill her walkman for the long ride he has home. Quill is hesitant, but eventually takes it, telling van Dyne he owes her one. As the team arrive, they see van Dyne by herself. Pym walks over, asking if she is hurt. However, she tells him Quill is from Missouri and is a good person.[2]
The Avengers interrogate Hope van Dyne
- Entering Missouri, Quill hears his father calling to him, but ignores it and turns up the volume on his music. Ego asks why his son cannot hear him, prompting his assistant to say that he was last spotted plumetting to Earth. Ego deduces that he must end what Quill started.[2]
- Mar-Vell and Pym leave for Missouri.[2]
- Battle of Mojave Desert:
- At the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility, the seedling starts glowing, causing Thor to conclude that Ego was coming. Thor is right as Howard Stark picks up Ego on the radar, showing he was arriving at that moment.[2]
- Discussing what to do, Black Panther suggests letting Quill and Ego fight each other. Stark asks Lawson if they have the child. She simply says that they have readings of cosmic energy. Lawson argues that Quill will not fight his father, leading Pym to chuckle as he asks Lawson if she is a parent. Meanwhile, Quill arrives at his mother's gravesite.[2]
Thor summons lightning
- Suddenly, Ego summons an army of himself from the ground, prompting Carter to order the firing of the tanks. A fight then ensues. The three superheroes fight while Carter shoots bullets at the incoming army. Thor then summons Mjølnir, causing a shockwave to burst out, destroying many of Ego's extensions.[2]
Ego in the Mojave Desert
- Meanwhile, Winter Soldier is in Missouri and watches Quill in his sniper scope as the child mourns his mother. Pym and Lawson then approach Quill from behind, formulating a plan. Winter Soldier radios this to Vasily Karpov, who asks him if he is ready to comply. Pym speaks to Quill, trying to appeal to him as van Dyne's father. Quill explains that Ego controls him by getting into his head.[2]
- Battle of Mojave Desert: Goliath uses his giant hand to wipe out many of Ego's extensions until the army climbs Goliath. Foster's only choice is to shrink, which he does. He then enlarges again, sending many of the extensions flying. Black Panther also fights some more.[2]
- Quill explains that he hoped if he came to Earth then he would not feel alone, but with his mother dead, it did not matter. Meanwhile, Winter Soldier goes to pull the trigger until Stark interrupts him, having hacked into Karpov's system. He then tries to talk down Winter Soldier, who insists that he did not exist.[2]
- Battle of Mojave Desert: Carter shoots at more extensions while Thor does his part.[2]
- Pym kneels to Quill, saying he understood and talks about how the home has felt lonely with his mother gone too, saying that the pain, anger and loneliness could be drowning but that neither of them had to so long as people pulled them out. Stark then tells Winter Soldier that even though he sees a target, Stark sees a future and he sees it in Winter Soldier too.[2]
- Winter Soldier argues that Stark does not know him, but Stark says Steve Rogers did and the person he loved would never take that shot.[2]
- Battle of Mojave Desert: As the team get overwhelmed, Ego sends his tendrils into the facility to recieve the seedling.[2]
Ant-Man approaches Peter Quill
- Battle of Mojave Desert:
- The power suddenly turns off, leading to Ego's tendrils breaking into Stark's room. Stark protects van Dyne over the seed, leading to it being taken. As Ego brings the seed to him, it seems as all hope is lost until the Asis arrives to save the day. Ant-Man and Quill jump out of the ship together and land on an ant. They then fly and grab the seedling from Ego.[2]
- The duo then fly into Ego's mountain and meet him inside, enlarging themselves. Quill tells Ego that he cannot destroy his home. Ego argues that his instinct to protect Earth is mortal and Quill will soon learn that everything dies except them. Ego goes on, saying that he had to kill Meredith Quill, getting Peter very upset. Ego acknowledges that Quill is mad, but claims he cannot defeat him.[2]

- With the threat gone, Pym embraces Quill.[2]

- Lawson then asks Stark if they heard about Winter Soldier, causing Pym to ask if they needed to lock their doors. Stark doubted it as something broke through to Barnes that day.[2]
Bucky Barnes returns to Brooklyn
- Finishing his dinner, Thor gets up and announces his departure, saying he needs to kill Ego's planetary form. Foster speaks up, asking if the rest of the team were invited. Thor tells them to suit up. The Avengers then walk out together to defeat Ego once and for all.[2]

- ↑ In What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes?, Hank Pam and Hope van Dyne are still reacting to the apparent death of Janet van Dyne. A.C. Bradley explained that the episode was based around Hope and Peter Quill losing their mothers at around the same time. In the Celestial Invader Ego universe, Quill's mother died on December 13, 1987 (see other references). Therefore, it can be taken that Janet van Dyne sacrificed herself in July 1987 like in the main universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes?, the Watcher says that Quill was kidnapped "Six months earlier" relative to his arrival on Earth, which is shown on screen to happen on "88·6·12." This can refer to an exact six months, placing the kidnaping on December 12, 1987, or more generally in December 1987. A weighted average, putting more weight on the more specific, places Quill's kidnapping on December 13, 1987.
