On December 31, 2026,[2][1] NYPD partners Connor Powell and Kel Shanahan[2] met their confidential informant, Nicky Torres,[1] at the 168th Street Station. The meeting turned violent when they accused Torres of avoiding them and started punching him. Soon, Hector Ayala came to his rescue and began fighting the officers. Using the distraction, Torres fled. When Ayala threw Powell to the ground, Shanahan tripped over his partner and into the path of a subway train, killing him. Powell then arrested Ayala.[2]
