Everybody in the role casting department did an amazing job finding the best actors and actresses for the characters. My favorite is also Tom Hiddleston because he never fails to surprise me playing Loki. I wanted to give a big shoutout as well to Sebastian Stan, who really got me engaged in Bucky's story despite having so few lines. I hope Bucky gets his own time to shine one day. He was the partner to the partner in his own show which was pretty disappointing to me.
Variant Loki L1130 is the most intriguing of the Lokis I've seen for an extended amount of time so far. His character development was a little rushed as he discovered most of his Prime actions and consequences at once, but he took it in stride and grew from it. Without Thor by his side, this Loki is able to bounce off of different people in a completely new environment, while still keeping his playfulness and wits about him. Due to his pranks and master plan being easily guessed, he must think outside of his own box. He has been forced to extensively question his identity in a matter of days, while it took Prime Loki years to go from sympathetic villain to villain to anti-hero to hero.
Out of Sylvie and the Void Variants, I feel like I don't have as many questions about Sylvie anymore, so I'm content with what we got so far. I'm curious as to why Alligator Loki manifested as a reptile, whether he has a long lifespan, if he is a Frost Giant Loki who is more comfortable shapeshifted (probably not), and who owned the cat he ate (was he on a planet of alligators who kept pet cats or was he a pet alligator?). Also, does Asgard have alligators because how did Loki know the croc/gator difference despite having never heard of candy? I'd be surprised if we never saw Kid Loki again, but I'm hoping for a closer look at President Loki pre-Void.
Oh I guess you're right @ThatGuyNamedJoe . Unfortunately, for me Poe was never able to separate himself from the overall Sequel Trilogy bleh. I've been seeing a lot of excitement for Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight though, and I don't judge him just for his role in the Sequel Trilogy.
Nothing that hasn't been said before: he's so charismatic, funny, vulnerable, and relatable. You know he's bad, but he'll try his hardest to convince you he's good, and you need him to win. I love how the show really built on each aspect of his personality while still feeling like everything he did was "oh yeah that's so Loki". It's incredible how his relatability grew into a good kind of predictability, which really shows with each performance and even fan creations.
Not counting Loki season 2 since it's not new, What If...? mostly. I'm excited for a cartoon series with actual MCU (voice) actors.
Moon Knight sounds interesting even though I know nothing about him from the comics and I don't think I've seen the actor in anything.
She-Hulk I might just skip unless I'm desperate.
Hawkeye sounded boring but Yelena and Hailee may save it for me.
I don't have any reason for hype over Ms. Marvel or Secret Invasion yet.
Um...wow...ok...that was crazy.
I'll need a lot of time to process this one. The kiss (weird), the multiverse (bad news), the TVA (worse news), Kang (to be honest I had never seen Jonathan Majors before so I just now discovered he was indeed Kang), even Miss Minutes (who knows). Where did Renslayer go? Is Alioth still around? He ate the multiverse once, he can eat it again. I wanted more Loki in the finale. He mostly just stood/sat around listening to other people talk. Now I'll have to rewatch one of the earlier episodes or some Thor movie scenes to cheer myself up.
Also, I was promised an ending! Hello? That was a huge multiversal-scale cliffhanger upon cliffhanger! But season 2! Yes! I'll be looking forward to the behind the scenes episode next week!
Black Widow spoilers are restricted to the official discussion thread until mid-August. This post will most likely be deleted by the mods, but you can put this in the comments there.
Just got back from the theater! For a movie I've not been super excited about (no hate towards ScarJo or Black Widow or anything, I'm just more drawn towards side characters) it was very entertaining! Yelena was very likable and she just gave me a major reason to watch Hawkeye (again, not the most exciting project). I wasn't expecting to see Val again. Was that supposed to be her first MCU appearance? I don't even remember the original schedule anymore. It's unfortunate that Val recruited Yelena (based on what I've read about Val), but I like how Yelena is more than just the New Black Widow at least for now. Will we see more of Taskmaster? The ending fell a bit flat if not. I love masked villains so I was hoping for more Taskmaster action in Black Widow, especially more hero imitations. There was a lot of buildup to the climax which was mostly just talking followed by lots of explosions and a disappointing lack of Taskmaster. Overall I enjoyed it and it's set my bar for future movies!
I don't have any expectations, comics or canon, and I think it looks cool. I'm glad they got almost the whole cast to step in the recording booth. Hopefully the 'replacement' voices sound as accurate as possible. I've been looking forward to this show ever since I saw the first sneak peek of a cartoon with MCU characters and actors!
I highly suggest watching Dark World and Winter Soldier, mostly Winter Soldier. The only movie I haven't seen is The Incredible Hulk if that counts.
I can't believe we're almost at the end! That makes me so sad. Right now I'm just pretending that we'll get a new episode every week forever because I can't handle it. Random thoughts not entirely in order:
*Kid Loki is NOT to be messed with. He killed Thor at that age?! Dude.
*Still confused about Alligator Loki.
*Mobius is back and driving a Pizza Planet truck (not really)!
*Miss Minutes is back! What if she's the one pulling the strings? Anybody?
*I wanted more President Loki. All that hype just for him to have his hand bitten off. Hopefully he can conjure himself a new one if he isn't already defeated at the hands (no pun intended) of his own variants.
*I knew something was up the moment Loki said he was cold and conjured the blanket. We all know you're a Frost Giant and therefore cannot be cold, buddy. Especially another version of yourself, but at least she went with it.
*Lokis don't shake hands! Lokis gotta hug. Aww.
No Way Home, Love and Thunder, and Moon Knight. I’m looking forward to more Spider-Man and Thor action. I’ve never read any comics but out of the new characters Moon Knight sounds coolest.
They're just using the No Way Home logo to make the sets seem more new and cool since the older movies aren't as fresh now. The gold badges at the top of the boxes say "inspired by [other Spiderman movie]".
Am I the only one who likes all of the Guardians and thinks that they should be around longer before they all start dying?
D o e s n o t c o m p u t e
Very, very very confusing, keeps-you-on-your-toes, no-time-to-process-what-just-happened.
*I want to know why Sylvie got snatched.
*I want more Miss Minutes. I need something light and fun after all that.
*I want to know if Mobius got dumped in a timeline full of other Mobiuses, a bunch of random humans, or a Jetski haven all to himself. (And don't tell me only the most important Variants get saved from pruning.)
*Did you see the tears in Loki's eyes when Mobius got pruned? I'm still on board for Lokius.
*I was expecting anything except for the Timekeepers to be robots. So much for space lizards.
*Lots of nice character development all around.
*All of these 'pruned' Variants still just hanging out in various timelines is going to cause some reeeal trouble which is probably precisely the point.
*Man, I missed the Marvel theme at the beginning.
*What the heck is Lizard Loki supposed to be/do?
I'm sure I missed some things but I'm getting distracted by multiple cats going after my fish tank so if you want to talk with me about the episode come over to my Message Wall.
I'll watch it in the theater with some family close to the release date. We don't have an exact plan yet since we're doing a first-MCU-watch with one member and we are only about to watch Ant-Man. To tell the truth I'm not wildly hyped about it because I'm still riding the Falcon Winter Soldier/ Loki wave and Black Widow has never been on my favorites list. For whatever reason I just like side characters more so I'm pleased whenever I actually like a main character enough for them to be counted as a favorite. This will be my first movie in the theater since Far From Home so I'm mostly excited to be back in the theater experience!
What a crazy, crazy episode. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the runtime was about 10 minutes shorter than the others, but that's because they wanted to end on a really extreme cliffhanger! Random thoughts (as many as I can remember):
*Loki and Sylvie trying to kill each other was so expected I kind of wish they had done something a little different.
*Sylvie's backstory NOW.
*I think she's doing a good job of at least being very Loki-like, regardless of if she is a Loki or not. They don't need too much insta-chemistry.
*Loki shooting fireworks from his hand... whaaaaaat? Also, "Another!" smash! lol. However... this Loki was probably in the presence of Thanos when that story was recalled... did he really read the files that thoroughly or is it something Thor does often?
*Loki was surprisingly off of his glamour game this time.
*Should I be worried that Loki is doing so much new stuff (singing?! dancing?! actual magic?!) in just one show? Like, is he making up for lost time or is this the last chance for him to do everything in canon?
*Was that planet inhabited by humans with a different alphabet or an alien species with lazy design?
*Why didn't they evacuate months ago? Seriously, who is in charge?
*Loki and Sylvie as a couple would feel too forced, but I won't put it past Marvel at this point. This is a huge surprise to myself but I kinda dig Loki and Mobius, is that a thing? (If you don't like it, please just keep it to yourself I don't need a giant argument.) I'm pretty sure that Loki will end up getting a romantic interest at some point because Tom Hiddleston was asked about it recently and his response was very unusual. Rather than launch into a very long answer, he rubbed the back of his neck (Body Language 101: red flag for being uncomfortable) and carefully avoided the question.
*What. A. Cliffhanger! How could it end right there? I need answers, I need to time travel to next week (best episode coming up!), I need more!
I'll be hanging out on my message wall if you want to talk Loki with me. Farewell for now!
I've been wondering about this too, especially since Where Mischief Lies takes place in the 1800s-ish. The timeline for Loki based on the book drives me crazy, because:
*Loki was born before 1000.
*But the Mirror does its thing every 10 years, and Loki doesn't remember the last time.
*Childhood must line up with humans as Loki was old enough to stab Thor when they were 8.
*So beginning-of-the-book-Loki must be somewhere between 10 and 13.
*After the incident it jumps to the point when Thor and Loki are considered to be men by the Asgardian tradition, which could be anywhere from 16-20something (human standards) or, assuming Loki was born around 965 and the book happens in the 1800s, 800-900.
*But this would mean that 800-900 is a very young adult Asgardian, so what does that make 1500-year-old Thor and Loki? *As much as I would love to consider Where Mischief Lies as canon, is it better to just ignore some aspects?
Anyway, I have no idea and the article Son of Ares shared is probably the most actually helpful thing.
Ooh, very mysterious. I wonder if wearing the tiara-thing with the broken horn is a matter of pride since she could probably just glamour it back? I'm looking forward to seeing the full outfit without the cloak. Character-wise I picked up a lot of Loki mannerisms from her puppets, but we'll just have to wait 2 more days to find out! I can't believe we'll be halfway done with the show this week. :(
I think Loki is more powerful than he realizes once he's not fighting plot armor. He has shapeshifting, telekinesis, possibly some form of telepathy (remember Valkyrie), illusion-casting, weapon concealment... It would be a lot of fun discovering all of the powers of the God of Mischief.
