1. No Way Home
2. Wakanda Forever
3. Shang-Chi
4. Multiverse of Madness
5. Quantumania
6. Eternals
7. Love and Thunder
8. Black Widow
All and all, I’d say that this film is just fine. It’s not perfect by any means and could’ve made for a better intro to Phase 5, but its still enjoyable. I can understand some the complaints people have pointed out, but I feel they’ve gone overboard with it. This film really doesn’t deserve the amount of negativity it’s been receiving.
Pros:
•Performances: I believe all of the stars did a stellar job with what they were given, Jonathan Majors in particular being the highlight.
•Family Dynamic: The relationship between the Langs and Pym family was very heartwarming and consistent all throughout, contributing to the film’s emotional aspects.
•Quantum Realm: I appreciated the world building and ever expanding knowledge we were given for one of the MCU’s most unique locations that may continue to play a crucial role in the future.
•Post Credits Scenes: While the first scene may have been goofy for some, both were honestly enough to get my excited for what’s to come, but hopefully handled with better care.
Cons:
•Low Stakes: The film may have played things too safe and there was never a moment in which I felt our characters were in genuine danger.
•Lack of Wasp: I definitely would’ve liked to have seen more from one of the film’s titular characters seeing as she felt a little underutilized.
•MODOK: Bringing this character to live action was always going to be met with issues and while I got a few laughs at his expense, what we ended up with just didn’t deliver and contributed very little.
•CGI: While Kang and the overall look of the Quantum Realm shined, the rest of the visuals and effects were poor, having been very noticeable and sometimes enough to take me out the moment.
@Chasemarc I’m under the impression the scene was merely a little joke and callback to M’Baku challenging T’Challa. If anything, Shuri is the official queen and M’Baku may serve as her regent.
Since this film was announced, my interest in it was always fluctuating. After watching it for myself, I can say that it fully delivered. This could very well be the MCU’s most emotional film and was definitely a real treat. It had the challenge of dealing with the passing of Chadwick Boseman and ultimately handled it in a very respectful manner.
The two standouts of the film were definitely Shuri and Namor. I was never much of a Shuri fan if I’m being totally honest, but Letitia Wright really brought out her A-game in this and I’m excited to see where the character goes going forward now that she is officially Black Panther. As for Namor, this was his first depiction in live action and they did a splendid job. The film really managed to make him and the Talokanil frightening adversaries.
Angela Basset gave one incredible performance as Ramonda and it’s a shame it’s her last. Nakia continues to be another favorite from how comforting the character is written and portrayed by Lupita N’yong’o. It’s great to see that M’Baku is now one Shuri’s most trusted allies after the hostilities between the two in the first film. I’m also going to assume he was merely joking about challenging for the throne at the end.
Regarding critiques, I would say that the film is a bit too lengthy for my liking. If I’m also being honest, I didn’t really care for Ironheart. Much like America Chavez, she was primarily utilized as a plot device, but didn’t feel like one that was entirely necessary. She has her upcoming series, but I don’t particularly feel anything for the character at the moment.
This just might be my most anticipated film of 2023. Scott is definitely one of my favorite heroes and the promise of more Quantum Realm/multiverse exploration generates loads of excitement. Not only does Jonathan Majors look sick as Kang, but I’m certain his performance will be the standout of the film.
Well this was certainly one of the most interesting episodes of any Marvel series. I’m still processing it and I’m honestly not sure what to make of it. While this series certainly isn’t as bad as a number of people make it out to be, I definitely have to rank it as my least favorite MCU Disney+ series
Todd being HulkKing and Intelligencia being made up of incels wasn’t all that surprising. One thing I admit to loving about this series is how self-aware it is regarding trolls. K.E.V.I.N. was interesting I guess. Jen and Matt are now an official couple if they weren’t considered one before. The episode basically confirmed a second season and a World War Hulk film, though Skaar definitely looked off. I’m also not sure what to make of the post credits scene, but I’d like to see Emil join the Thunderbolts.
I’ve been the fence about this series and while this episode isn’t absolutely perfect, it was still very enjoyable. The ending was quite brutal for Jen. Tatiana has done a great job as per usual and I’m interested in what other projects she’ll be attached to in the future.
The wait for Daredevil is finally over and I’m satisfied with what we got. The character generally works better in grim environments, but shouldn’t be restricted to one particular area. His chemistry with Jen was pretty fun. I’m growing on the classic ketchup and mustard suit, but still prefer the all red.
@AntIsBack In regards to characters yet to join the MCU, I easily noticed Deadpool, Cyclops, and the Thing. I had to really analyze the shot and check out breakdowns for the rest.
I felt this was one of the more enjoyable episodes. Of course the highlight for most people will be Daredevil’s cowl. The shoe wall in the credits was a fun little way of teasing characters yet to come in the MCU.
This series may be lower my list for most anticipated projects, but I’m still very intrigued nonetheless. It’s good to have the real Fury once again in such a prominent role for this spy-thriller. I also wonder how big of a role Rhodey will play, but I doubt he’s a Skrull.
This episode was definitely an improvement over last week’s in my opinion. Most of the jokes landed this time around. Wong was the highlight as Jen suggested to the audience. Beyond that, there’s nothing else that really stood out to me.
Well I think I’m in the minority here, but I really did not like this episode. The humor this time around just didn’t do it for me. I really couldn’t get myself invested in the B-plot in any way. This episode probably gave the us the most bizarre post-credits scene in the MCU. It was nice, however, to see Wong again and I suppose Phase 4 is really all about him lol. I also got genuine laugh out of the episode making fun the “M-She-U” sayers.
This episode felt largely uneventful in my opinion, but then again it’s only the second one out of nine. It did, however, go by extremely fast.
Tatiana continues to be a fun addition to the MCU. Just like Kamala, Jen’s got an awesome dad. I know there are concerns regarding Abomination’s depiction in the series, but I thought he was fine in this episode. I imagine we’ll be seeing Wong next week.
The highlight would definitely be the reveal of Bruce, presumably, heading off to Sakaar. I think this may be the last we see of him until the finale for a post credits scene. I’m fully expecting a Planet Hulk/World War Hulk announcement, possibly at D23. I did enjoy his cheeky comment about being a totally different person in 2008 lol.
If Walker or Zemo were to appear, I feel it’d be nothing more than a cameo as both are most certainly going to be apart of Thunderbolts, which releases later that year. I suppose I’ll have to go with Alexei as I don’t know when or where the character will return.
There are definitely projects that I simply do not like and will probably ignore. I acknowledge the faults I have with any project, but also try to focus on the positives. Thankfully, the vast majority of the MCU is enjoyable at the very least.
Actively trying to sabotage the performance of a show is extremely petty, but sadly there’s not much we can really do about. I initially showed little to no interest in the series prior to the premiere, but ended up having a blast. Iman did a stellar job with the character and I loved the dynamic with her family and friends. The Clandestines were the weakest part of the series, but it was a lot of fun when focused on street level.
I haven’t quite figured out my exact ranking for the films and shows altogether, so I’ll just be making two separate lists.
Films:
1. Spider-Man: No Way Home
2. Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Aside from the Illuminati and my belief that Wanda’s corruption was over the top, I really liked it. Strange continues to be a favorite, I started caring about Christine, I loved all of the mystical aspects once again in addition to the horror.
3. Shang-Chi
4. Thor: Love and Thunder. Although I believe the film was just decent, it really could’ve benefitted from a longer runtime and a SIGNIFICANT lack of jokes in my humble opinion.
5. Eternals. The film has some memorable character moments and sequences, but the rest was largely forgettable. The only character I can’t wait to see return is Dane Whitman.
6. Black Widow
Shows:
1. Loki
2. Moon Knight
3. Hawkeye
4. Ms Marvel. If I’m being quite honest, I showed very little interest in this series leading up to the premiere. I decided to watch it and boy did I just have a blast. Sure this type of story might not be everyone’s cup of tea and I have my critiques, but it’s definitely worth a watch.
5. WandaVision. It was definitely fun to watch initially, but I’ve honestly started to forget about the series. It was a big way to kick off Phase 4 and had a lot of big surprises. However, I just feel the other shows I ranked higher did a better job at grabbing my attention and sticking with me.
6. Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Not at all bad, but is simply my least preferred out of the bunch. I can’t wait to see more of Sam as Captain America and where Bucky’s story goes moving forward.
Overall, I think I’d have to rank this premiere as my least favorite. What I personally think could’ve been very beneficial for the episode was a longer runtime. We have nine episodes, so I’d definitely be fine if we got to spend more time with Jen’s transformation and training. Perhaps it also could’ve helped with the courtroom fight, which was definitely my least my favorite part of the episode. I haven’t gotten used to the style this series seems to be aiming for, but we literally only have one episode. As with many Marvel projects of late, the humor is very hit or miss for me. However, the performances were what shined.
Tatiana did wonderful job with introducing the character to the MCU. She was so full of like and it’s fun to have the MCU’s first fourth wall break. I’ve seen criticisms regarding how quickly she mastered being a Hulk, but I doubt she’s a “master” already and we’ll certainly be seeing more of her personal struggle with these abilities. Although I’m still not 100% satisfied with the CGI, it has grown on me and is certainly more fluid than what we saw in the trailers.
It’s great to see Bruce again. This episode already answered major questions we had about the character after Endgame and Shang-Chi. It was nice to see him reminisce about Tony and reveal some pretty big info about Steve lol. Although he believes he’s found mental stability, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the original Hulk. The Sakaarian ship in the beginning leads me to believe we’re getting a Planet Hulk/World War Hulk project, although I doubt it was Skaar piloting the vessel.
Ranking of the Disney+ premieres:
1. Loki
2. Moon Knight
3. Ms. Marvel
4. WandaVision
5. Hawkeye
6. Falcon and the Winter Soldier
7. She-Hulk
