Okay so I’m an insomniac and I’ve been up all night thinking about Mutants in the MCU and I’ve been thinking about these theories. Let me know what you guys think, do you think these theories make sense or is my brain just malfunctioning from sleep deprivation?
So for my first theory, I think I know how mutants could be existing in the MCU and I think I’ve thought of a scenario that’ll introduce more Mutants. Now I think that the government or SHIELD will find out about the existence of mutants when superhumans, or enhanced individuals, start popping up in random locations. Some of those individuals have gained abilities after being involved in freak accidents or stressful events but none of them have been exposed to anything that has been known to create superhumans but after examining a lot of these enhanced individuals, SHIELD scientists discovered a genetic anomaly in all of those individuals, a gene. They started calling it an X-Gene and it’s actually been previously discovered years ago in many people’s DNA but nobody in the molecular biology field was able to figure out the purpose of this gene and they didn’t think anything of it as 40-60% of predicted genes have unknown functions anyway. They would later discover that this gene is usually dormant in the people that carry it until a certain event occurred such as puberty, stressful, or traumatic events. It could also be triggered by increased exposure to solar or cosmic energy or radiation. They also theorized that it could also be triggered certain exotic substances or substances that causes the body stress and causes the body to mutate in certain ways (let’s say a human being carrying this gene ingests a mutagenic substance like a heart-shaped herb, they might develop their own unique superhuman traits as their X-Gene would be activated as the herb forces the body to mutate). They also discover that this mutant sub-species has been around for a while but the population was very low in earlier years and there was a very small few and an even smaller few with an activated X-Gene, but after recent events in the 21st century involving the emergence of superheroes, causing many people to experience traumatic events and since there’s been a noticeably higher exposure to solar and cosmic radiations, this caused a significant increase in the mutant population.
As for my scenario, you don’t have to take this part seriously. I don’t think it’s the best idea but I thought of this idea involving the plot of Spider-Man 4. So I had this idea where Peter gets into college and goes to Empire State University and there he meets a girl named Francine Frye (I haven’t thought about whether she’d be just a friend or love interest). She majored in Electrical Engineering and he majored in Biophysics. One day, Peter battles a villain and Francine is at her internship at an electrical power plant, which is where Spider-Man and the villain end up at. During the fight, Peter notices that Francine and her boss are there and tries to get them to safety while fighting the villain. He manages to get her boss to safety and almost gets Francine to safety but when Peter tries to evade the villain, the villain crashes into the electrical grid Francine and her boss were working on, causing an arc flash electrocuting both Peter and Francine. Peter is able to get back up just fine but Francine gets knocked out and Peter rushes her to a hospital. Francine would later wake up with electrokinetic abilities becoming Electro. I didn’t think about whether she would be a full-on villain but I do think she would cause conflict and get captured at the end. At the end of the movie (in the post-credits scene) Peter would visit her in her prison cell and then finds that SHIELD has come to transfer her. Either Nick Fury or Maria Hill would explain to him what is going on and explain to him the recent emergence of mutants and how they believe Francine is one of them and that they wanted to study her in exchange for a lighter sentence and rehabilitation. Again not my best idea (probably one of the worst you’ve ever read lol) but if you’re wondering where I got the idea of Electro being a mutant, I’ve always had the idea of Electro (Max Dillon) being a mutant in the comics who’s X-Gene activated after his freak accident and he was just never recognized as a mutant. I thought since it’s unknown whether or not Max would return or they would introduce another Max Dillon in the MCU, I thought that theory could be cool for the MCU’s version of Marvel’s female Electro, Francine Frye. Again, don’t take this part seriously, if you think it’s terrible, I don’t mind lol. It’s just a small idea I had in my head and I’m sure there are much better ideas.
So I’ve been thinking about this theory ever since WandaVision and I’ve always wondered if Wanda and Pietro might still be mutants. My reasoning for believing this is the fact that in Age of Ultron, Wanda and Pietro gained their powers from the Mind Stone. Wanda and Pietro were among many volunteers in their town to allow HYDRA to experiment on them with an Infinity Stone and Wanda and Pietro were the only ones to survive the experiments. My theory is that they were able to survive because, unlike the other volunteers who were regular humans, they were both latent mutants (or at least Pietro was) and exposure to the Mind Stone caused their X-Genes to activate, surviving the experimentation. I think that the the Mind Stone definitely activated Pietro’s X-Gene and activated his mutant ability of super speed, but I think for Wanda, her X-Gene was already activated and it activated when her parents got killed and her and Pietro got stuck under the rubble with the Stark bomb. In WandaVision, this situation was shown and it was confirmed by Agatha that Wanda always had magic and she casted a probability hex to stop the bomb from exploding. Now we know that Wanda always had magic her whole life but I think it goes even deeper than that, I think her natural aptitude for magic was her mutant ability. I believe that pre-experimentation, she possessed the ability to use magic without any training. Like her ability would’ve manifested as probability manipulation that would’ve caused unlikely, but not impossible, things to happen and that would’ve been before she discovered her potential as a sorceress and I believe that when she discovers magic, she would be able to master the Mystic Arts with little to no difficulty and would’ve been able to cast complex spells with no need for incantations just like she can now because of her natural aptitude for Magic, just like in the comics (before Marvel retconned her being a mutant 😒). Her power and skill would’ve rivaled the sorcerer supreme and she would’ve been considered one of the most gifted sorcerers/sorceresses. However after exposure to the Mind Stone, her mutant ability was enhanced and her potential increased exponentially to the point where she could draw upon even more energy and she could pull from any source and any dimension and could call upon any form of magic she wanted, even the mythical Chaos Magic, through nothing but sheer will and her power would’ve exceeded that of any sorcerer/sorceress.
Anyways, those are my theories! Feel free to tell me what you think and if you think these are terrible ideas, just remember that they’re just ideas and are not to be taken seriously lol. Also sorry for the long post.
