So this is a theory which has been gaining some traction in the fandom since the deleted scenes from Thor: Ragnarok which shows Loki and Thor finding Odin in an ally and he warns of Hela's coming, before she arrives he has Thor kneel and in a way that seems to be ritualistic anoints him as the new king of Asgard. This has led some to believe Thor was supposed to gain the Odinforce in the film.
Others believe Thor did inherit the Odinforce which explains his ability to use lightning without Mjølnir. However I doubt Thor does and this is why. While we never get to see Odin truly display the full might of his power many of his past actions prove how powerful he is. He was able to keep Hela sealed away as long as he was alive, was able to steal the Eternal Flame from Surtur and wound him while Hela even while in Asgard barley made him flinch. He was shown to depower Thor and cast spells such as the worthiness enchantment as well as break Loki's spell to regain his memories. Now Odin did tell Thor he was stronger then him (Odin) which some interpret as Odin meaning Thor is stronger than Odin cause Thor now has his fathers power plus his own. But we have to remember two things. Odin himself said Mjølnir only channeled Thor's power, Thor just needed to learn to use it naturally. Second if Thor did have the Odinforce I think he would have done a better job fighting Thanos, even without Stormbreaker Thor should have easily laid into Thanos.
Now, this doesn't mean that Thor still couldn't have or inherit the Odinforce later on. In the comics Thor did gain the Odinforce, which was later called the Thorforce. I would like to see this happen as it would be a great power up for him and be a great way to show what Odin was capable of when he was in his prime.
With the announcement of Love and Thunder and the return of Jane and her becoming Thor after taking Mjølnir which somehow gets repaired. Now despite some people criticizing the Mighty Thor series it wasn't just about Jane. It was also about Thor trying to become worthy again and going through his own journey of finding out what that means. With Thor suffering PTSD because of his recent losses and defeats I think it would be cool seeing his journey in the MCU mirroring the comics and ending with him reclaiming his sense of worth and overcoming some of his inner demons and earning the power of the Odinforce which maybe he uses to fix Mjølnir and gives to Jane. Or maybe he discovers he did inherit the power and has to go through some kind of trial to fully use it, something like this occurred in the comics when he had to go through some tests to gain the Odinforce and master the runes.
What do you guys think, will we ever see Thor use the Odinforce?
