I love loki, o truly do. I think its a great series, the actors and story line are great, and the set is amazing, but there are alot of things about it that annoy me.
first off, the 'representation.' A common saying in film goes 'if they don't die on screen then their not dead,' and this applies to other things too. When sylvie and loki are on the train that won't escape the planet, loki and sylvie talk about romance. Loki says he likes 'princesses and princes' insinuating he's bi. this is the ONLY line about it. it really felt like a way to get a few extra brownie points from the starved fans. Listen, its great that he's canonically bi, great, but since their is no one screen proof, it doesn't feel legit. If they had made it more important, and tied it in better, maybe it would have worked. if my sources are correct, the scene where loki goes in the time loop was possibly going to be between him and an ex lover, not sif. I think this would've been a good idea, although the sif idea is great on its own. Going along with the need for brownie points from fans, or just general lacking, loki is described as gender fluid. Cool, right? It would be, if it was mentioned at all! the only proof in the loki series of this is in the first episode credits, which some fans may have skipped, including myself. The problem with this is that all characters around loki call him a he, and a man. If you were to look at this show alone, no outside sources, no credit scenes, no extra media, I don't think it would be easy, even possible to tell that he is. This show has so much potential, and I hope in season 2 they use it, and they show what fans have been waiting for.
next, end game pairing, end game as in 'official last pairing.' If you've seen the show, you know that loki and sylvie get together in the end, have a kiss scene and all that. Now, on surface level, it seems fine and dandy, but its kinda weird when you think about it. 1, they technically have the same parents, just from different universes. still, that's the same parents, their parents are copies of eachother. Marvel says that 'they lived separate experiences' but that really doesn't change anything. Siblings that never met can't just start dating (if they knew they were siblings), that would just be weird. they had different life experiences, sure, but that doesn't change that they have teh same parent(s). if you look past that, its still just annoying. Sylvie was a main character girl, and if you know how stories tend to go, they tend to end up with the main character dudes. This is such an old way of thinking, and takes away from sylvies character, she was such a strong character, and to be written in just to be in love with her practically sibling is just gross.
I could rant for ages about it, but I should probably stop it here, thanks for anyone who actually took the time to read it.
(edit: I'm to tired rn, but I noticed it was hypocrital to complain about characters using he/him on loki when thats what I did for the whole rant, I'm gonna change it, don't worry, but rn its like 10 at night so.)
