I think in most cases, even some sequels, you can watch a film and not be too lost. I think for Endgame, it’s important to watch Infinity War, but you don’t necessarily need to watch the first two Avengers films first. I don’t know if you need to watch Civil War before watching Black Panther or Homecoming. I think the previous movies do help establish some things, but they get reference enough later that you get some of the picture. It certainly might help understand certain relationships better, but I am not sure if anyone would get really lost if they watched out of order.

Thinking of film franchises, where maybe I watched the earlier films a long time ago and forgotten things, but when watching the latest film in theater, I didn’t find myself too lost in the story.

It doesn’t hurt to go back and watch certain films or even a show, but I think most stand on their own.

Homecoming is probably the only Civil War era Film I think you need to watch at the very least Civil war in order to understand the storyline due to how important it is to Peter/Tony's Storyline, If's Tony wasn't in the film then yeah obviously you don't need to watch it.

Now Granted you can started pretty much where ever you wanted in in the MCU and not get confused, again I'm the perfect example in that in being that my first Film Civil War was a film that almost the entire plot rely on both Age of Ultron and The Winter Solider/First Avenger, but those for probably only for Casual or Newbies fans and not people you watched every single MCU Film ever made.

Werewolf By Night is something you can watch without having to do any homework.

I disagree about What If. You'd have to watch the whole Infinity Saga at least before Season One to understand the context behind the deviations.

Also, I watched Guardians of the Galaxy & Black Panther in theaters before I got invested in the MCU, and they made perfect sense as standalone stories.
