I've seen rumors or even fancasts of 20-somethings for Scott, Jean, Ororo (though sometimes they cast her as a 30+ actress) Sure, that would work with a completely rebooted X-men universe, but seeing as Scott is the same age as Kamala Khan, for example, just seems weird to me. I know fans want to see the X-Men done right, and I do too, but making the OG X-Men around the same age as the Spider-Man or Young Avengers doesn't make sense to me. Cyclops should be equal to Captain America, not some junior leader younger than the new Falcon, for example.
I already think MCU Spider-Man is way too young compared to the Avengers even though Holland is my favorite otherwise. I don't really want to see the whole X-Men team go through that and another coming of age superhero origins.
Plus Magneto is defined by surviving the Holocaust. By now he has to be at least 80+, and the movies don't use a sliding time scale like the comics do because they refuse to properly age and develop. He can't be young unless you change his backstory.
Which brings me to my next point: these characters should be allowed to age and pass on, so that younger X-Men can take the spotlight. I sympathize with fans who feel the Fox-Men movies failed the generation of X-Men like Scott & Storm, because I agree with them, but these characters have been stuck in the same place in many respects for 50+ years.
I think, in all honesty, the superhero genre in the comics struggles to move forward and support new characters. Spider-Man is the worst example, to where every adaptation except the Spider-verse movies won't let him age past 30. When he's actually Jessica Jones' age and she has a daughter by now. It's crazy.
And even with all that, at least the Avengers & Spider-Man have supported younger heroes like Miles, Kamala, Wiccan, Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, etc., to some extent. I think the X-Men deserve to have their younger heroes at the level of popularity of Ms Marvel. Right now how about one around that level is X-23. I'm all familiar with the post-2000s members but I know they exist and could be used more.
I know it's a tricky topic with the aforementioned history of disappointing live action X-Men adaptations, and I doubt any adaptation will be fully satisfying, but I really feel the younger X-Men cast in the MCU should be centered around the X-23 and subsequent generations of younger mutants. Of course I don't expect all X-men fans to agree, and I understand why. This is just a personal feeling but I want to hear what others have to say about this.
