Did Steve Rogers technically become the ruler of Asgard? Or was Thor just being tongue-in-cheek?

In the first Thor movie it's established that the only people who can wield Mjolnir are those who are worthy of it. This is not tied in any way to ruling Asgard, that appears to be a lineage thing.

This line was broken when Loki died and Thor decided he didn't want it and therefore gave it to Valkyrie.

If Thor and Loki had both died and Steve had gone to New Asgard with Mjolnir, they would have most likely said thanks and then just chosen someone Asgardian to rule (probably still Valkyrie).

It wasn't even his joke. It was Tony's. Thor just went along with it cause he wanted to humor Stark and probably found it hilarious.

I mean sure Steve was able to pickup the hammer. Now does that mean he became the ruler, it’s possible

However the reason why it happened because it was supposed to finish a joke in Age of Ultron where we see Steve lift the hammer but it moves a little but he can’t fully pick it up

So they were just completing a joke.

The only reason why Steve might not be worthy is he isn’t a god nor an Asgardian. So I am not sure if he is fully worthy to be ruler

Plus Thor made Valkyrie the ruler instead of Steve because he wanted to retire in the past with Peggy so he didn’t want to stay in the present. Valkyrie was the only option because Thor trusted her

That's not how Mjolnir works. It just gives you Thor's powers, not royal blood.

Also, Steve could have lifted Mjolnir in 2015, it was claimed by one of the Russo-s. He just didn't.

@Mvrr He's probably not even only OG Avenger who's now worthy of Mjolnir. Pretty Much All of the OG Avengers except for Endgame Clint and Banner are worthy of the Hammer. Could Tony and Nat become rulers they lifted up the Hammer and would have Tony reinstituting Prima Nocta?

I think Thor was just being tongue and cheek when he said he could rule Asgard. But the fact that Steve got just a minor twitch out of the hammer when he tried to lift it in Age of Ultron was obviously a hint that Odin considered him worthy to wield it too. And it was obviously confirmed when it was sent to Steve in Endgame.

It was said by Thor in Age of Ultron whoever wields the hammer becomes ruler of Asgard. More specifically Tony asked and he said yes. That could have been a joke but since he didn't want to rule over new Asgard I imagine him dying means Steve is technically in charge, but I imagine he'll pass it over to Valkyrie and just be Asgard protector.

Again, they were all joking and Thor knew none of them could lift it anyway so he might as well promise anything is a cool deal that comes with the hammer.
