In the comics Dr strange, while pulling shit out his ass on the regular, also has a core arsenal of spells fans can recall and recognise. You know the crimson bands, flames of the faltine, Shield of the seraphim etc. A lot have their own lore like the crimson bands coming from the god of destruction cyttorak, the faltine being the race of hellish warlords Dormammu is a part of etc and invoking the vishanti in a lot of his spells, gives them character.
But a lot of mcu Strange's spells seem one and done apart from the boring orange sparkles which are overused.
