Would be a fun scene, but the end product also made it a fun surprise for M'Baku.

I think he meant a surprise for us as the audience. If we saw their conversation beforehand, the surprise is already gone when he comes off the ship.

I think that scene was done well. Nothing about it made me think he was deceptive against Shuri. This was something she wasn’t ready to do.
