@KingValeska Sorry for ruining some of the magic behind Wakanda, I just am used to the comic version of T'Challa in Earth-616, because that Wakanda had more of an explanation in my opinion for how Wakanda made it's money.

I partially agree with you on the overrated part. I do think that a lot of people were blinded by the first black superhero in the MCU to have his own movie. I think it’s weird that a lot of people (some major media outlets even) referred to him as African American. He’s actually just African in the movies (specifically from a fictional country)…not American. Also, CGI was not their best. It WASN’T their worst, but it was pretty bad.

As for the trading with other countries, I don’t remember them outright saying that they don’t commence any trade. They just didn’t trade their technology. I could be misremembering, though.

@Nathanial Higgins I agree, in the first scene, T'Challa had the most badass suit ever made, but then they replaced it with CGI crap.

I love the movie and many things about it but honestly it’s super overrated. According to critic scores it’s the best MCU movie (might be tied with No Way Home now?)? It’s the only MCU movie to have won an Oscar. People constantly praise Killmonger as the MCU’s best villain while Vulture, Thanos, Kingpin, Loki, and Doctor Zabo exist.

I LOVE Black Panther and would rank it high among MCU films but it gets quite overhyped.

The best Villians are Thanos, Hela, Loki, Kingpin, Winter Soldier, and Zemo, I don't get why everyone's crazy about Killmonger, yeah, Michael Jordan is handsome, but the oscar deserved to go to no way home or Infinity War, it's not terrible like Black Widow and Eternals, but it's not on the Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok, Iron Man 1, and No way Home tier.

But also another factor in my argument is overused, but it makes sense. So I assume at the end of the film, when Killmonger was defeated in the worst CGI fight (Like even Star Trek: Into Darkness had a better CGI fight then the god awful one in the final scene) Killmonger said his ancestors committed not alive in order to not be prisoners, the scene sounds badass, until you consider 2 facts, first of all, how the hell are they your ancestors if they committed not alive, and 2, aren't his ancestors also T'Challa's ancestors? How is T'Challa alive? Just bad pacing I guess.

Thats not how ancestors work. Only a pair of your ancestors have to live long enough to procreate in order to keep your bloodline alive so that statement makes perfect sense.

Also, its wasn't literal anyway. He is simply referring to black slaves in general as his ancestors (the way most real-life black people would). The farther back you go the more familial connections you find within an ethnic group. All African Americans descended from black slaves therefore we call them our ancestors.

Yeah, it is hella overrated. Boseman, Gurira, Wright and Serkis were fantastic but the rest of them were meh. The villain's motivation doesn't make total sense and CGI was subpar. The story was one of the most generic in the MCU too.

It was just good, nothing more imo.

Black Panther received so much attention not for things some of you have mentioned or disliked. It is a film with a lot of cultural significance for the African/Black community, that have not always had such positivity in film. Kilmonger was a great character in the film, not for his power, but what he said and represented as much as what T’Challa/Black Panther represented as well. A lot of people felt represented from the film and so they came out and supported it. The film is not perfect, but it had a message that got men and women, who don’t normally watch comic book movies, to come to the theater. That’s a large reason for the success and talk. It wasn’t for the CGI fights or whether Wakanda was even possible. I don’t think it is overrated because what people loved about the film is unique for the genre and as a Hollywood film. There are things they can do better for the next film.

Marvel Studios is doing other projects about Wakanda and the characters that live there, so we might learn about how their government and society worked.
