After the abuse and trauma she endured at the hands of kilgrave combined with the fact that she took an innocent woman’s life what do you expect her to be like? She has recurring nightmares of her time as kilgrave’s servant. I wouldn’t be smiling or generally happy with this kind of never ending torment in my life and having to relive it every time I go to sleep.

If she weren’t like that, she wouldn’t be as interesting. Not every protagonist has to be Superman (a goody two shoes)

Besides, with everything she’s been through it makes sense that she wouldn’t warm up to people easily

Whether or not the audience likes her is beside the point. This woman lost her entire family (or so she thought) as a child, was taken in by a manipulative woman, discovered that she had abilities, tried to be a hero, and then was mind-controlled, abducted, repeatedly raped, forced to kill a woman. Of course she spends half her time at the bottom of a bottle.

You want her to smile and be nice? Kilgrave, her rapist, literally FORCED her to smile. Of course she doesn't smile.

Batman’s personality is pretty similar, minus the drinking. Nobody craps all over him.
