I’m watching through Runaways for the first time and there’s just some things that don’t add up to me. I know the Darkhold appears in later seasons but there doesn’t seem to take any care for the universe it’s supposed to take place in. I’m not trying to say it’s not canon buts it’s almost like the writers didn’t realise it was supposed to be. It feels like Runaways and Cloak and Dagger take place in their own universe and that’s coming from someone who usually defends the canonicity of the shows.

* After Jonah’s ship is destroyed PRIDE seems surprised that Aliens exist.

* There is no reference to the existence of enhanced which was part of what made the Netflix shows feel so official.

* The Runaways are called the most famous people in America during a time where so much else was happening in the MCU.

* The only connections you could make (Roxxon, Wakanda, Darkhold) seem to be things that could and should exist in every Marvel universe.

I guess I’m just wondering if there are answers for any of this. Again I do think they are supposed to be canon I’m just a bit confused.

Cloak & Dagger is very much connected to the rest of the MCU. Starks, Rands, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Karen Page, New York Bulletin, Roxxon...

Sean buddy maybe the old MCU shows are only partially canon. Think about they had no impact on the main MCU only like 2 had an slight impact. That is because Agents of SHIELD has multiple MCU cameos and of course because of Coulson himself and Agent Carter is of course a show based on a Peggy Carter and has many MCU cameos as well and some episode were even produced by Kevin Feige. The others including Agents of SHIELD has no Kevin Feige involvement which is why almost all of them don't impact the MCU in a big way unlike the Disney+ shows. That's why there are errors because they weren't directly working under Feige. Both Kingpin and Daredevil are back so the shows aren't out of canon clearly if that helps.

@David Kaique there were interviews at the time where the creators explained that the kids are so far away from New York, and so much younger, that it felt weird for them to be "following the Avengers on Twitter" or something, so the idea was that they were just not interested in them as much as their own stuff, because they were far removed from them. It still would have been fine to reference them on TV or something, or have the parents following them as they're more in the age group and interested in powers, but I guess it makes sense.

It’s funny cuz the thing I love the most about the show is the thing I hate the most about the show, which is the fact that it feels like it’s own thing. But I do rather like it more than dislike it, do wish there were more direct connections but hey there honestly are A LOT of you look into the show hard enough to establish some good canon. Still won’t excuse the PRIDE ignoring the Battle of New York and all that tho.

Marvel uses the multiverse for the canon system, so either Runaways takes place in Earth-199999 or it doesn't.
