@Hogshead of real fire Because it was an intentionally sad scene and you were supposed to feel sad for Peter. If you are not able to understand that sad scenes are meant to make you sad then I can only assume you are incredibly young which is nothing to be ashamed of but you are probably not old enough to watch these films

I'm just saying why the hell is that the opening scene? Why did the filmmakers feel this strange compulsion to open this film with a child witnessing his mother die?! Did it not occur to them that people may think "wow that was horrible, I don't want to watch this anymore" and walk out of the theater?

And yes, I know the opening scene from Up was pretty sad too, but at least they held off until afted the damn opening logo! (And they didn't show such raw grief)
