Secondly, it was confirmed that the brain of some higher, human-level intelligent species was implanted in Rocket.

Third, if you have something against alien pairings, Quill himself said he had dated a female alien with tentacles.

I'd say it's weird more just for the reason that they have no chemistry and their personalities pretty much directly oppose each other and they've never expressed any romantic connection or even real interest in their times on screen.
