Yeah, it was disappointing that they didn't show Cap meeting Red Skull. What was the point of having Red Skull there if they are not going to show him meeting someone who recognizes him? Hugo Weaving refused to return, so they recast the role. But they might as well just used an alien character.

Just imagine Red Skull meeting Cap suprised that he's still alive.

Is Red Skull free now ?

I don't think Red Skull would be free, because even though the stones were destroyed by Thanos in 'Infinity War', they were still in use later in the timeline, and also still exist outside the timeline.

Red Skull as the guardian of the Soul Stone served absolutely nothing but fanservice. I hope they retcon him to not be Johann Schmitt but an alien that just so happens to resemble Red Skull. After all, nobody who interacted with him onscreen knew Red Skull, and they skipped over the part where the one guy who fought him in World War II came to return the Soul Stone. And Hugo Weaving isn't even the one in that makeup. It's Ross Marquand. And Red Skull was supposed to be destroyed by the Tesseract, not transported to another planet to guard a different Infinity Stone!

Lol what. why would the Tesseract have destroyed Schmidt? It’s literally the Space Stone (power to teleport through space)! We even saw that a portal into space was opened in the First Avenger when Schmidt touched the Tesseract. It makes perfect sense for the guardian of the Soul Stone to be Schmidt

Well, even if we saw him teleported, they should have dropped that storyline when Hugo Weaving refused to return. Especially since there was no interaction between him and Captain America.
