Biggest waste of potential in the MCU?
Biggest waste of potential in the MCU?
Inhumans
Never getting Gladiator in Daredevil. And I know they were planning on it, but it sucks that they never got the chance to do it. They were so building up to that.
They should have handled Uncle Ben like the PS4 game did. We would have known he exists at least, but it isn’t a focus at all.
Adam Warlock. He was only a five second cameo. Now his entire potential plot has been and gone. Apparently in the comics he had a huge role in the Infinity War saga, and we didn't get that. I hope that counts as wasted potential.
Adam Warlock will be back and he was never suppose to be in Infinity War or Endgame.
RALPH BOHNER- I can’t get over that
Not focusing a little more heavily on the “Universe” part of the MCU. Following the success of Avengers, it seems like there were a ton of missed chances to subtly tie in the more supplemental parts of the MCU into a more cohesive universe. Not that they didn’t try early on with AoS and Agent Carter and I get that there were two studios doing stuff at once and internal politics blah blah blah but it still seems like they did a huge disservice to a lot of the characters, story, and worldbuilding by segregating the films and shows the way they did. I’m not saying that I know how to do it better or that it would have been easy, I get that film production is a complex industry. It just feels like with a little bit more foresight and planning the MCU could have been a much better Universe than it currently is.
Some examples of specific missed potential:
Daredevil and/or Luke Cage not appearing in Infinity War, if only as a small cameo during the New York Invasion.
Absolutely none of the TV shows addressing the Snap. To that end, not making the Snap a huge cross platform event.
None of the Defenders and none of the Agents of Shield appearing during the portal scene of Endgame
Not making Shield a bigger force post Civil War. Like with Shield being legit again it would have made sense to have them appear in some of the other TV shows. I mean, you’re telling me they can track Inhumans to put on their list but haven’t at least tried to interact with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Danny Rand, or the other smaller superheroes?
Not having a Melinda May cameo in Captain Marvel.
Not actually going through with the prospect of setting up a movie through the storyline of one of the shows until WandaVision.
Punisher/Ghost Rider Buddy Movie (this is a joke, but...)
I agree that it's a shame that TV and film didn't cross over more. For a long time the execs have said this had to do with production schedules. Films would be in pre-production for years but TV shows would go a year at a time, so if a film said "Hey, we want to use this TV character in our film which comes out in two years" the TV writers would be like "Are you kidding? We don't even know what's going to happen to that character next season." Someone out there (I'll look for it) Feige had said he didn't want the TV writers "handcuffed" to what was going on in the films.
Having said that, there were many ways the films could have referenced the shows without danger of messing up continuity. Stark could have casually mentioned a meeting with Rand Enterprises. Fury could have tossed off a line about super-powered private investigator who was on his radar. Someone could have had a copy of the New York Bulletin on their desk and there was a cover story about The Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Heck, they missed an opportunity in Falcon and the Winter Soldier to have someone make a casual remark about experiments happening on prisoners in Seagate. But considering Agents of SHIELD only had a couple of tiny references to the Defenders shows and only Cloak and Dagger mentioned any of the characters by name, having the films reference the TV shows was too much to ask for, I guess.
Hank and Janet Pym not being part of the avengers. There should have been an Ant-man and wasp movie before or after the first avengers movie.
Ghost Rider was wasted
What do you think?
