Three down, two more to go. That’s right, my friends. Alongside Luke Cage and Iron Fist, the Man Without Fear himself, Daredevil, has officially returned to Marvel Studios. It’s been a long two years since we last saw the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen grace our TV screens in the critically acclaimed Netflix series, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the partnership between Disney and Netflix being terminated after Disney released their rival streaming service, Disney+. But, now that Daredevil has returned to Marvel, Kevin Feige has full control over the character, leaving his future in the MCU an unknown mystery. Fans are still petitioning for the return of his series with the hashtag #SaveDaredevil, which has gain over 395,000 signatures, myself included, and is currently trending on Twitter as of this article’s release. But, so far, there hasn’t been any news regarding Marvel’s plan for Matt Murdock or if Charlie Cox will come back to the role. There’s been rumors, though, that Daredevil might appear in the third installment of the MCU Spider-Man franchise, given that Peter Parker will be on the run in New York, and will eventually need a good lawyer to help clear his name. Matt Murdock would be the obvious choice given the characters’ history together in the comics, both being NY-based vigilantes who have teamed up on multiple occasions. Of course, that’s just mere speculation and nothing concrete, at this point in time. The lack of news has caused fans to wonder what future projects might be in store for Daredevil once he returns to the MCU. Will his series be revived and put on FX or Disney+? Will he finally make his big screen debut in his own movie or as a guess appearance in another character’s movie, like the aforementioned Spider-Man 3? Will Marvel do a full on reboot of the franchise and ignore the events of the show entirely, given that Kevin Feige wasn’t involved in the project? Or will he soft-reboot the character, keep the actor, and ignore the show, but mention certain events like the arrest of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin? Well, who knows, really? Until Marvel gives us more information, all we can do, at this point, is speculate.
But, either way, it’s exciting to know that Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and now Daredevil, have returned to Marvel Studios. Which leaves two Defenders characters left, Jessica Jones and the Punisher, both of which will return to Marvel on February 18, 2021. The #SaveDaredevil petition will be in the link below, and be sure to leave your thoughts and theories about Daredevil’s return and what might happen to the character in the future.
