Continuing the "Scene Discussion" is the final scene of Deke Shaw, as he stays behind in an alternate timeline, where he becomes the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

What an end to a character. Going from consistently betraying SHIELD to becoming part of the family to the head of a new SHIELD. Going from having to fight for himself to self-sacrifice. Going from being obsessed with Daisy to accepting that she's happy with Sousa. This was the perfect ending for Deke. I love the implication that he continued Deke Squad after this, and the way he was so happy to help the team and stay in the alternate timeline, it was inspiring. I was crying a lot when he said his goodbyes to the team, but I was happy for him.

I doubt we'll ever revisit this timeline, but I don't think we need to honestly. The timeline itself got a solid ending.

I love this ending for Deke but this has been bugging me... why did he have to stay back? I could have missed something but why didn’t one of the other dozens of SHIELD agents from that timeline do the lever or button or whatever it was? But this is definitely a great ending for Deke.

They didn't know how, it was the 80s. Deke had the technical knowhow to manipulate it.

I guess... I feel like deke would’ve stayed back either way tho. That just seems like a very deke thing to do.

It's not like any other 80s person understands the technology. It was either Deke, Fitz, or Simmons, and he wasn't about to let his grandparents be forcibly separated.

I’d pay lots of money to see him as the director of shield interacting with agents like Coulson ,Fury and Ward and how he deals with the events that are about to happen from Howard Stark’s death , captain marvel’s (the movie) events to the events of endgame and FFH

This was an amazing ending for Deke. But I wish we got an epilogue of Deke putting together the former and/or deceased SHIELD agents from previous episodes of AoS and got something like Jeff Ward said about a reference of Deke becoming the comic-inspired original Nick Fury with the eyepatch and Goose from Captain Marvel.

Regardless! I love the conclusion, but because it opens to many doors, I don't think Feige or anyone at MS will care to explore it... But considering FitzSimmons from 2023 were able to make a proper time-travel trip to the past, it shouldn't be out of the question that Deke can also pull this off and re-visit or return to the main MCU timeline whenever he feels like it.

(I still ship Deke x Daisy goddamnit.)
