JARVIS (the AI) told Tony that the Mind Stone was like a computer. the Soul Stone I take to of a different nature. Mind Stone's computerlike nature I take was part of Tony's reason for using it.
and in the past, someone put the Mind Stone in the scepter; making it relatively easy to take. not sure if the Soul Stone was ever in any object.
