Something has been bugging me since the big announcements at SDCC in July, and I expected some clarification fairly shortly after if not at D23, but as far as I'm aware, there's been nothing.
Everyone seems to have accepted that there is an MCU Fantastic Four film happening. But has this actually been confirmed?
Months ago, sure, there was a rumour that a Peyton Reed Fantastic Four film was looking at a c. 2022 release. A rumour.
Then at SDCC, Feige said:
"Now, there's a lot of other stuff we didn't get the chance to talk about today. We, we didn't even mention... that we're making Black Panther 2! Didn't come up. We didn't - we didn't mention the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is coming! We didn't have time to talk about Captain Marvel 2, on the way!
And then, at 1:50 of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlODRwNuPCc&t=110s , you can see that he continues, "I didn't even have time to talk about the Fantastic Four."
Before finishing with, "And there's, and there's - and there's no time left to talk about mutants, and how mutants are coming to the MCU."
It would seem to me that at no point there has Feige actually confirmed a Fantastic Four film, only that the characters are coming to the MCU, the same as what he says about mutants - not a specific film, just that the characters are coming.
Feige later clarified for anyone in doubt that it wasn't a film called "Mutants", just the inclusion/introduction of the "mutants" characters. So I'm wondering if there's some interview where he did a similar thing here, clarifying it does refer to a film.
And while, yes, I imagine it is very likely that if they're introducing the Fantastic Four characters, they will be making a Fantastic Four film, especially with the rumours already existing that they would be.
But I am yet to see an actual direct source confirming the existence of this film, so I was wondering if anyone knows of one? If you do, I'd love to see it just to clear this all up.
Otherwise, have people just been working on assumptions for the past 2½ months?
