Devil to Pay: Regardless of what anyone says, the MCU is still set up for a possible future Secret Invasion. The comics presented the Skrulls as getting beat back and decimated by the Kree (which pretty much happened in Capt Marvel) but then a generation later, their general anxiety over their almost-annihilation leads to them grasping at straws to find a spiritual solution. So they find some old texts from a forgotten era that say they need to find and claim a new homeworld. The Skrull government becomes less thoughtful and more reactionary and leads a slow invasion of Earth. The shapeshifting Skrulls slowly kill people in power and replace their forms. Like superheroes, actors, world leaders, religious leaders, lobbyists and business leaders. Then the Skrulls swiftly make a large scale announcement and any organization or leader that could do something to stop would have already been led by a Skrull, so society is basically spinning its wheels while being invaded. It's a great story, and I can see this being done. The conditions for it to happen had to be set up with the Kree, which in Captain Marvel took place.

@Andrew Ronning I personally don’t think Secret Invasion would be the way to go regardless. As @BEJT mentioned, the implications of the event would undo a lot of character development in a rather cheap way.

Additionally, the Secret Invasion comic featured:

1) An army of Super-Skrulls as their main fighting force (which would be hard to pull off in the MCU visually, especially since there are much fewer heroes in the MCU than in the comics).

2) The Skrulls were motivated by religious extremism (which would probably be in in bad taste on screen).

Basically, you would have the throwaway the main elements of what made Secret Empire cool, and you’re left with a race of generic warmongering aliens, no different than the Chitauri (only now they have the potential to lazily undo character development).

I would much rather them focus their efforts on something else, especially considering Secret Invasion wasn’t that great of a comic to begin with.

Not that great? Did you you read the tie-ins? I see Secret Invasion as one of the more in-depth and complex stories that Marvel has released. I think they could release a movie having the Skrull Queen as the center of it, and to save money, they wouldn't always have to be in Skrull form- because they are blending in as humans anyway for most of it.

Daredevil S2 is very good. I don't know why people say its inferior to S1 and S3.

Plus, Captain Marvel is a flawed movie... but I guess this one isn't that unpopular.
