Time Traveling Van

I’ve had a question that’s been bugging me for a while. Maybe I’m missing something totally obvious. What was the purpose of the van in the final battle of Endgame? They made a big deal about having to start it up in able to get the stones back in the past. I believe Thanos ends up destroying it anyway and then we all know that the stones are returned by Cap. So why was it so important for them to try to return the stones then and there?

Same reason the had to kill Vision. Make you think that the battle would play out one way, and for it to be completely disregarded.

Yes, they wanted to send the stones through the quantum realm so that Thanos couldn't get to it.

They were trying to return the stones but Thanos got in the way making Tony the ultimate sacrifice

They wanted to retern the stones to the past now and not later becuse if they do it now then thanos dont have any way to get the stones from the past in order to destroy the universe, so bringing the stones back will stop him from killing evrybody
