Falcon and Winter Soldier

So, at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers hands his shield over to Sam Wilson, but in my personal opinion, Bucky Barnes should have gotten the shield.

Bucky has been in the MCU from the pretty much start, yet Falcon, who was later introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier got the Captain America mantle.

What do you guys think?

I believe that Cap gave Sam the shield because Sam stayed with him during his worst times. Sam helped find Bucky, accompanied Cap at Peggy’s funeral, and supported Cap during Civil War. He was always there when Cap was really struggling. I believe that Bucky was worthy of the shield but I think those are the reasons they gave the shield to Sam.

I think some of this will be explained in their Disney+ series as I’ve heard in interviews that there is vocal opposition to Falcon becoming Captain America as one of the plot points.

Bucky already weilded the shield before, for short moments. I believe it is time for Falcon to shine.

Is Bucky still susceptible to mind control?

He does say in Infinity War he's 'a semi stable old man' and it's never really touched on any more than that I believe. Could still be ways to exploit his mind control weakness if it's still there.

Bucky may still be looking for redemption.

Who knows they might even address this in the show, why Steve chose Sam over Bucky.

One thing I’d really like to see in The Falcon & Winter Soldier Series is for Bucky to openly back up Steve’s choosing of Sam to carry on the Cap mantle if Sam is met with opposition. Bucky and Sam’s relationship still feels a little tenuous, and while Bucky did give Sam a literal nod of support in Endgame while Steve gave Sam the shield, I feel that Bucky openly standing by Steve’s choice would be a testament to the developing friendship between Cap’s two best friends.

I think so yes, in the comics when Old Man Steve Rogers retires, he gives on the mantle of Captain America to Bucky Barnes, formerly known as The Winter Soldier, after he retires, he gives on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson, aka Falcon.

I agree with Sebastián Stan that it went to Sam partially because of what has happened to Bucky. He’s been through all that Hydra crap, and, while we are led to believe he’s been “fixed”, he could very well still be subject to things implanted in him by Hydra. We were never given details on everything they did to him. They could’ve implanted failsafes for scenarios such as this
