<p>The scene itself was funny (though he reacted oddly coolly to getting 3 gashes through his cornea) and the scars on his eye do look like claw marks, but it was a bit of an anticlimactic letdown. Remember the context of the "I lost an eye" line is what Cap says right before it: "Soldiers trust each other. That's what makes it an army, not a bunch of guys running around shooting guns."</p><p>So to have Fury reference a cat scratch as a response makes no sense. The scene basically goes like this:</p><p>"Soldiers should trust each other."</p><p>"Last time I trusted a cat it slashed my eye out."</p>

<p>As for another MCU mystery to answer....TELL US ABOUT BUDAPEST, DAMMIT!</p><p>They've referenced it twice now, and they better give us the background in the Black Widow movie.</p>

honestly I prefer them keeping it this way because it would be super sad if he lost it in an accident or something but getting it scratched due to a cat sounds more believable and makes us realise that fury had a life and wasn’t always the strict shadow of shield like he is shown to be

Well think about it.
You know it’s better seeing Fury as a fun agent who can have silly little mishaps in his life instead of the Fury we see in the black rain coat and big boots all the time!!!
It’s good to see that he was a beginner in S.H.I.E.L.D too and that he had more then just a work life
By making it more believable I mean to say that it shows us that it’s not a major accident it’s just a minor mishap
