I feel like if he wanted to save the universe from dying he didn’t have to destroy half of it to do so. I mean technically he could use the stones to make more resources and not kill everyone. It was kind of a dumb thing to do and that caused everyone to hate him.
He had to remove half the universe
Adding more resources but not more space to operate wouldn't work

But if he was so powerful with all the stones he could have easily created more space in the universe as well as more resources. He tore apart billions and billions of families and gained hatred of basically everyone in the universe it was completely unnecessary especially because the deaths were random. Imagine being a kid and your whole family disappears and you have no where to go. You wouldn’t be thinking about how Thanos saved the world from death you would obviously hate him and in the end his plan back fired because the Avengers learned how to time travel.
