In the comics, there's Sentry, Hyperion, all the cosmic entities, Jean Grey-Summers/Phoenix/Dark Phoenix, even Thor is much more powerful than in the movies.... but in the movies, I feel like they don't want to have "deus ex machina" characters that could end the conflict instantly, cuz it ruins the threat of the villain.
