<p>There seems to be a lot of discussion about this across the interwebs. I do think it's a stupid argument that'll get resolved in about 8 weeks, so people should just relax. But all evidence seems to be that he's the hero in this incarnation. Yet many seem to be absolutely convinced that it's a ruse and he'll be a villain who's just pretending to be a hero because 'that's what it is in the comics'.</p><p>
</p><p>Surely if we've learned anything from Marvel Studios, it's that they're not going to be predictable. Does anyone really think they'll give us an overly-obvious plotline now? Am I wrong?</p>

What you need to do it remember the Sinister 6 setups they were doing in Homecoming. Who's in the Sinister 6? Mysterio is. What if Mysterio is actually from a different Earth, but gets stuck and blames it on Spider-Man? There are tons of ways to make him a villain without doing a betrayal type thing.

<p>The very essence of Mysterio is that he is a liar about who and what he is. Yes, it's from the comics, and yes, it would be a twist if he truly is a hero. But here's the thing. From a writing perspective, if you write a character to be the exact opposite of their one, defining trait, you are adapting that character in name and appearance only. I don't think the MCU has definitively done that to any character so far. I know they take huge liberties with certain characters, but even then when you break those characters down to their most basic essence, they are true to the comics. When writing Mysterio for any adaptation, in any form of media, the first natural question to come to mind is: What grand lie will Mysterio orchestrate this time?</p><p>

Mysterio is the one on all the soda cans, cereal boxes, etc. Just like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, Lizard, Electro, and Vulture over the years as those respective movies were coming near to release. The Elementals might be on a few things, but from what I've seen so far they seem like an afterthought.</p><p>

<p>@The Immortal Saiyan Time travel is not the only thing that causes alternate realities. The multiverse has been talked about in Doctor Strange. There were already countless other universes before anyone did any time travel in Endgame.</p>
