I know I've been talking about how "dark" Civil War made the MCU a little too much so I'll change the subject now and make a list of the top 5 most sympathetic villains (even though we still disagree with their actions).

5.) Thanos

I am glad I graduated from my elementary and middle school before they added detachable classrooms that must be hell to go through in winter. And I hate traffic, especially when jammed up. Both signs of overpopulation, which can also lead to not enough to go around, so I can always sympathize with villains who want to prevent it. Sienna Brooks, Richmond Valentine, the computer from Logan's Run, etc.

Of course, doing so through mass murder is still wrong, plus he killed ALL the dwarfs besides Eitri, not just half, and he tortured Gamora and Nebula (even if he really loved Gamora and felt sad about killing her), so he took the lowest spot on the list, and I still hope to see him definitively defeated.

Besides, consider the fact that Thanos's race doesn't die of old age, so it's easier for his planet to get overpopulated. Asgardians can live for thousands of years but they at least seemed to have control.

4.) Helmut Zemo

His family was killed by the heroes that were supposed to protect them. I know losing your family can be tough, and he must have felt really betrayed.

Of course, I put him lower too because of the permanent damage he did to the Avengers and to the universe (maybe, ironically Thanos may have fixed it), and because the Avengers did the only thing they could to save the world and didn't intend to kill anyone except Ultron. Surely Zemo knew that.

3.) Ghost

She was afflicted by a quantum explosion as a kid while her parents were killed, which seems to have driven her mad, and as this is slowly killing her, she just wants to find a way to survive.

Of course, we don't agree with the lengths she'll go to do this, and neither does Bill, who suggested she get Janet to help her rather than kill her for her quantum energy, and Ghost flat-out refused. But then, she IS one of the two main villains to reform, other being Loki.

2.) The Vulture

It was pretty close for the top spot. Toomes was unfairly driven out of business by Tony for no reason, and wanted to provide a comfortable life for his family, rather than ruling the world or destroying it.

Now, we can't say he's NOT a villain; if the MCU world is any friendlier towards its inhabitants (other than ex-cons) than our world, maybe he could have got another job that paid as much or more, but he was just tired of living off table scraps. And of course, anyone the criminals kill with the weapons he sells them is on him, and he's perfectly willing to kill anyone who interferes with his operations.

But, aside from his motivations, he also seems to have a code of honor. When Spiderman saved Liz, he gave him a chance to back off. And when Spiderman saved him, he denied to Gargan that he knew who he was. Maybe he'll even find redemption in Far From Home.

1.) Killmonger

When he was a boy, his father was killed by his own brother. Yes, it was to save Zuri, but Erik didn't know that. He just knew who killed N'Jobu because of the Black Panther claws in his chest. By the time Killmonger got an idea of how it may have happened, he had already gone to the dark side. And while we agree that T'Chaka had to kill N'Jobu, he abandoned Erik and left him with nothing.

Killmonger's motivations are also less sinister; he wants to help people who are being oppressed. Though he goes about it the wrong way (where T'Challa does it the right way), becoming like the people he hates in order to to "beat them at their own game" and planning to kill the children of those in power. On the other hand, though he never truly finds redemption, in his final moments he and Black Panther did seem to respect each other, despite his words during the battle.

This all made him a fan-favorite villain until Thanos in Infinity War.
